I just started my freehand supplies.

Kramer starter kit with 400, 1000, and 5000

I want to add the 3000 but can't yet.

I also got DMT paste 6,3,1 tubes.

Now here's the ? Do the 5000 and 6,3,1 tubes overlap in microns? Should I move from 5000 stone to 6 then 3 etc.

6micron diapaste depend on backing abrade like 2K to 5K stone.
3micron embeded in hard backing surface will leave scratches as 5K stone.

Recommend grit progression: 1K, 5K, 1um on hard balsa, strop on plain leather.
