I took my computer in to the shop today to have some upgrades done, and the tech told me about this beta.

I installed it this afternoon, after I ran Ad-Aware (I also have Spyware Blaster running) and ran it. It caught stuff that the other two missed! it also will automatically upgrade and update itself if you have Windows Update activated, and it also will run each day automatically. It also monitors your system, and supposedly will catch stuff before it can get on your PC.

I know some of you are anti Microsoft, but this Beta seems to be a good deal, and I highly recommend trying it for yourself.

I also run all 3 of those programs and my computer runs pretty good. I agree, it does a good job of catching things the others don't :)

I'm paranoid about those pesky viruses. They have nailed me in the past with devastating results.

I regularly run Norton Anti Virus, Ad-Aware, and MS Anti Spyware (Beta) on a regular basis. Actually, I automatically have Norton run once a day and manually run the other two about once a week.

With all three, I feel relatively safe. But for some reason, I only feel about 95% safe...I wish I could be 100%!!!!

Recently I read a Department of Defense review of anti-spyware programs. Giant (bought by Microsoft and is the real code behind their beta) was clearly the most effective of all. Webroot's Spy Sweeper came in second. Unfortunately, the freeware products did not do so well.

Think Microsoft has the best product, even though it's still in beta.

Here's the link to get it:

BTTT.

More members need to see this, and do the download.

It has indeed notified me of stuff that was trying to get onto my system, and blocked it.

I downloaded the MS Beta a while back and have had good results with it. Also have Webroot and Spyware Dr. among others.

Ron try downloading the AVG antivirus program. It's compatable with Norton and has caught viruses on my system that Norton did not.
You should be able too Google it.;) :D

Let's make this a sticky thread for a couple of weeks, long enough for everybody to get the word.

A quick word on MS Spyware Beta.

This program will only work with legitimate licenses of the XP OS software. It will not load otherwise.

The link for AVG Antivirus is www.grisoft.com

I still have stinkin Windows 98. Oh well.... :( :grumpy:

Maybe on the next computer.

make your next computer be a mac. macs dont get alot of viruses becasue alot of them are formated for windows platforms. you still need a utilities program to keep it in shape. norton gets the job done i would think that the windows edition of norton is good also.

Another positive review here. Picked up a lot of stuff that Ad-aware hasn't, although I wonder if some of the crap was stored deep in restore points and the like. Nevertheless, the interface is pretty user friendly. It also can be set to run on a schedule, and proclaims to work in the background to keep stuff out to begin with.

A great product, and at my favorite price!

spybot tea timer and the windows beta rock!

spybot recommends spyware blaster so I have that as well.

spysweeper + avg PRO

I think I am locked up at about 98% LOL!

I use it along with AdAware 1.06, SpywareBlaster, Spybot S & D, and AVG Antivirus.

I love it.

My box has been Spyware/Virus free for the last 2 years. :)

I been running the Beta since it came out... it has caught stuff all the other ones has missed.

FYI, the plan is this program will be commercial (pay) software when the stable version is released.

Didn't work for me a caused many many problems with my computer. I actually had to reinstall.

I may try it again to see if it was a fluke but I'm not sold on it at all.

I put the beta version on my computer about 2 weeks ago and am happy with it so far.

I also have lavasoft Ad-Aware and it is always picking up lots of spyware every time I run it.

Another good program is the freeware version of Spyware Doctor (5 stars from CNET.) I run this one at work and it has also done a great job. I'll probably install it on my home computer as well.

I never had any good results with Spybot and wound up removing it from my computer - never picked up any spyware, don't know why.

Have you updated it? Updates aren't automatic.
