Alright, I have no idea how to create a webpage so i'm using frontpage to try out since that is what i've got installed in the computer.

Anyway, it's quite easy to use and all but now i've found out that you need some sort of Frontpage Server Extension. I just got webhosting from godaddy.com and there's this thing they ask for. A Frontpage "from" email address. It has something to do with using forms or what not. I'm a bit slow with these things and i can't seem to find out what email address i'm supposed to put in here.

I thought i'd just put my email address but then it just doesn't seem right. Why don't they just ask to type in "your email address" instead. So i'm thinking this is something different. Godaddy's site is a bit difficult to surf through and i can't seem to find the answer.

Can anyone help?

it is a bad move starting on Frontpage. MS use their own funny version of HTML 4 which is the industry standard. See if you can get a free copy of Netscape Composer, or push the boat out and get a copy of Dreamweaver.

The FP Server Extension is to upload the file from FP on your computer to the web server BECAUSE FP is such a non standard system. Real HTML users use FTP for uploading files. I use Cute FTP Pro. FrontPage is a bad deal all round.

I know about Frontpage not being that good. But it's all i got right now and i can't be bothered to learn html. Is Dreamweaver as easy to use? If it is then i'll give it a go. This website thing is costing me a lot!!!:)

Amen. If you want the most people to be able to view your web page trouble-free, don't create them using a tool which produces nonstandard encoding.

point: used to design in FP back in the day, let me know if you need help.

Thanks for the offer. But i've been persuaded to use dreamweaver. Just downloaded the trial to have a look at how it functions.

So far so good. Very similar.

Anyone can point me to any sites which details how to add photogalleries in your website?

Edit Plus is a good "free" html editor. It is very easy to use and see what you are getting.

I say "free" because after a few weeks it starts to give you a nag to buy it but nothing too bad.

Another good HTML/XHTML editor to try is "Nvu" an open source Web authoring program available for free download at http://www.nvu.com/index.php. A more basic authoring tool is "Composer" as mentioned before and is available in the Mozilla suite http://www.mozilla.org/products/mozilla1.x/ as well as Netscape (older versions of Netscape anyway, not sure about the latest).

I have used FrontPage but it does produce some proprietary code that is geared towards IE users which can be bad news. I have sucessfully created many sites in FrontPage that rendered properly in all Web browsers but you have to NOT use any of the proprietary features. For a WYSIWYG program, I use Dreamweaver is much better or even Adobe GoLive if you have the necessary horsepower to run the Adobe applications. I run Dreamweaver MX 2004 on a Toshiba Tecrea 8000 Pentium II 366MHz w/256MB RAM. It works pretty good on an older/slower laptop.

If I didn't have the budget for Dreamweaver, I would go with "Nvu"! A good source to help you out (not sure what your experience is with Web design is) is http://www.w3schools.com/. It is a good place to go for even the most experienced designers, especially for reference to CSS.

Good luck.

I finally got dreamweaver 8. First time i ran out of computer power after i used this.

I'm using a dual core 3ghz P4 with 2gb corsair ram and adobe bridge, Photoshop and dreamweaver was on with some other memory intensive programs running in the background.

Time to buy more memory.

Thanks for all the advice. I'm finally starting to learn how to create a website. I've been resisting learning it but then it just costs too much to get someone else to do it for you.

I run Adobe CS2 on a Pentium III 733MHz/384MB RAM and also the Macromedia MX 2004 Suite. It does ok if I keep Adobe Bridge turned off. I bought the suites for the newest version of Photoshop and Dreamweaver (at that time). It would definitely perform better with more CUP/RAM. I think if you disable Adobe Bridge to where it doesn't start up automatically when the OS starts, it will startup and run if needed by one of the Adobe applications.

Learned with just text. Forgot it all.

Dreamweaver is the best I've used. Frontpage isn't bad but not as simple to learn on but gets the job done. Not sure about the HTML4 issue but not surprised if it's true. That's MS for you.
