I just got my new laptop from Dell via UPS on Teusday. Really neat little toy :) Anyways, as my favorite hobby is digital photography, I went right to installing my faithful old Adobe Photodeluxe. Bummer, it flashed a message that the 2 versions I have do not work with Windows XP. The computer had ImageExpert included, but about 5 minutes with that told me it was just not what I wanted. Sooo...I went out today looking for a new image program, and decided on Microsoft "Picture It! Premium Photo, v.2002". I spent only about 30 minutes in which time I was able to figure out lots of neat stuff that it does. Its extremely easy to use, very self explanatory and IMO is an incredible value. From what I have seen so far, I could care less if I never used photodeluxe again. I intend to get more in-depth with it over the next few days, but here is a sample of what I did right off the bat.

The original photo was done about 1 or 2 years ago. The added effects are new, and are much faster and easier to do than in photodeluxe. Microsoft Picture It! Premium Photo v.2002 cost me about 45 dollars at Wal-Mart, and has a coupon to mail in for a 15 dollar rebate. If you are new to digital imaging, or have been doing it for years and just want a versatile easy to use package, check it out.

Thanks for the tip. I have about 5 different programs at my selection, and I haven't even heard of this one. You are going to be even MORE dangerous with those pics!!!

Good shot!

Thanks for the good words guys.

I dont see to many reviews of imaging software around here, but this one deserved it. Wish I would have tried it before.

Rich, that looks like a good program. I used Adobe PhotoDeluxe for about two years before getting PhotoShop 6, (now they just came out with PS 7). I know you couldn't have done those Type effects in PD. Good luck with your new computer and image editing program, and keep up the good work.

Just to nitpick, that reflection should be flipped to be more realistic. ;)

I have been sweating the fact that when I upgrade to a new computer I am probably going to lose my beloved Adobe Photodeluxe Business Edition. I'm a newcomer to *any* kind of photography and am really attached to Photodeluxe.

It's nice to know that there is a program out there that appeals to Photodeluxe users, Richard!

Thanks for the update and information!

Qwest screwed up my account when they moved me to MSN broadband.

Sent MS Picture It Publishing, Platinum Edition 2001 as an "oops we're sorry".

It's about 10 CD's, but I haven't really bothered to play with it.

Yup Phil, no way I could have done that text in PD. There is a way to add shadows to text in PD, but it is darn near rocket science to do....a real pain in the a$$.

Galloglas, dont worry about losing your PD, Picture it will do well for you, and I know you will like it far better once ya try it :)

Michael, I also have 'publishing'. It will do photos also, and has some different effects that 'photo' does not have, and vise-versa. It is ideal to have both, although if I had to have just one, it would be 'photo'.

Thanks...great photo tip.., I need all the help I can get ;)
