Microsoft security essential help needed

MSSE had an update yesterday. Went to download on my xp machine and wound up with the following eror code: oX80070643 (this was after following download wizard). I had MSSE on my machine now it is gone.

Any suggestions on how to install.

I would try reinstalling MSE as a first step.

I have found that at least on XP its tough to install the updates manually. If you let the machine do it it seems to work better. Clict the power button on the bottom right of the start screen with the Shield on it and let it run.

You need to uninstall and reinstall the program. YOu will also need to remove registry entries for the program as well.

Download and install CCleaner @ http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download

Then install Revo Uninstaller Free Version @ http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uninstaller_free_download.html

Run Revo Uninstaller and uninstall MSSE. And follow the steps using the tutorial on their website.

Then run CCleaner using the registry cleaner.

Download and reinstall MSSE.

You should be good to go after that.

I just uninstalled the previous version and downloaded and installed the new version. If that doesn't work, you go always go through all the steps Ken C. outlined above.

The error code you post you are getting is related to an issue with Microsoft Office 2003. Did your PC come with the trail version installed? Do you use it? If not, I'd say get rid of it and replace it with Google Docs or Open Office. Here is a link with info on the error:

Your WindowsUpdate.log file seems to be trashed, do a system restore and it should fix it. Try going back 2 weeks before your problem started.
