Im new to forum so please forgive any newbe mistakes. I purchased a Microtech ADO and in the description it says the the steel could change from several options without notice and none of the options were 440C. Got the knife and heard they are made of 440C so I call Microtech. At first no one could answer my question and then they finally sent me to the build room. The guy I got said ELMAX and so I asked about the handle cap. He didnt know so he looked it up and called me back. He then said the knife itself was made of 440C. I was a bit pissed as I had no idea Microtech made anything out of 440C. I dont know much about the steel but have always avoided anything less than 154cm or D2. I always assumed it was just a cheap steel. Any thoughts on 440C or any inside info on Microtechs use of it? The production date of the knife is 08/2016 so it is absolutely the newest edition. I was planning on sending the knife back but really like it. So looking for advice on the steel. Thanks

hey! don't know much about the company but some one here does i bet. but about the steel i got some blades that say "440 surgical stainless china" so i bet its the same type of metal or at least similar and I've really not had a problem with it yet. stays sharp as good as any. not sure if its normal with the model one you got but if it is its pretty good in my expirience. good luck hope you figure it out. wish i could be more help buddy, thats all i know

I looked up some of the Blade HQ ADO's and allot of them are 440 as well, as long as you like the knife keep and use it. Microtech would not use a junk steel in a knife.

If it's a Microtech and 440C then I'm sure it's a well manufactured and heat treated 440C. 440C is a good steel, maybe a slight downgrade from 154CM but still good. It's certainly not the 440 surgical stainless mentioned above, Microtech would never use junk steel on their knives.

440C is a decent steel very rust resistant. In my use ive been able to get it to hair spiting sharp, but it loses that after a few cuts. (which is normal) My only problem with 440C is edge retention is not the best, but its good, i would compare it to VG10. Except that 440C is easier to get to a high sharpness. I would have to agree with everyone else tho that if its coming from Microtech its going to be good. It may even be better then the one's i have. Since i bet that Mircotech would go out of there way to do an amazing Heat treat. If you plan on using it your going to have be sharping it frequently or strop it alot. I also know how it is to buy a very expensive knife and not be completely satisfied. If you like it keep it, but if not see if you can get a different steel.

tl;dr 440C is good, if you like it keep it.
