I have been looking at one for a feauture purchse, but I do not know of the quality of the knife (although I am assuming it is very good). I would be using it as a rotating EDC.

Also a link to somewhere where I could buy one for a good price would be very helpful also.

The ones I have handled have all been spot on. The quality is better than Benchmade but not that much more. I would rate them about the same as Combat Elite, maybe a hair less. The Amphibian does not have the proprietary screws that are common on a lot of MT's so when you consider their lousy customer service its a blessing.

If you can find one at a good price I wouldnt hesitate to reccomend it.

I think it's one of the most under rated knives available. I have one and love it so much I'll probably buy another just so I have a spare. It's one of my all time EDC favorites. I've got a couple friends who are Strider obsessed and even they were impressed with my Amphibian. That fat bellied recurve loves to eat cardboard:)

google = LOVE!

there are quite a few variants of the amphibian and it is a sweet knife!

the newest have s30v steel and the cool screws, too!

Yo Labella - who GOTS those Amphibs in S30V?

My first knife was a Gerberr Serrator and it is the most comfortable knife I own. Pulled it out of a drawer and stuck it next to the Amphib and there are a LOT of similarities. I love the Amphib's recurve - to me this is the coolest looking knife around. It feels great in my hands, although nothing feels as good as that $35 Gerber Gator. I had an Amphib that did not center when closed and I sent it back to MT in FL. Long story short - MT lost it but just recently they really made up for the mistake by sending me a brand spanking new mint ULTRATECH (which BTW I'll be looking to trade for a Strider)!

Back to the Amphib. The one that got lost was a black with stonewash. The SW blade is the way to go. My new Amphib has the satin and it's too shiny for me (that's why I'm looking to trade it for a SW one). I have not carried the Amphib around but when I did put it in my pocket it wasn't noticeable. Not really the kinda knife you can flick open in a social setting to cut a label off, it's kinda on the bigger size.

I think the Amphib is a work of art and I'm kinda hesitant to carry it for fear of scratching. Some dudes might laugh at that. Gonna get a few Amphibs so I can have one that's gonna get dinged.

The only things that suck are that I'm sure that beautiful black handle finish will get scratched up. Other is that it HARD TO CLOSE! You really gotta torque down on that microbar to close, so in a way it's a good thing.

I really like the Amphib and I've got 2 Mini SOCOMs and they are really sweet too. I'm partial to the Amphib and Mini SOCOM and don't really care for BM because of the buttons.

The best prices I've found for Amphibs (got mine from him) are at

BTW - I've looked high and low for Amphibs and only the CAMO ones and the Satin ones are in stock. GPknives and Florida tactical have some other ones but NO ONE seems to have the stonewash.

Dulaboy, just USE it and don't worry about scratching it. You'd be shocked as to just how wear resistant Microtech's hard anodize finish is. My two favorite large knife EDCs are the Amphibian and an old style Socom Elite. I've been carrying the Amphib for over two years and the Socom E for at least three. The only visible wear on either of them is a small ding on the Socom E where I bounced it off concrete and even that is a way smaller ding than I expected considering how hard it hit the deck.

Keep in mind that Hard Anodizing created an Aluminum Oxide finish. Many blades have been ground with abrasive belts coated in Aluminum Oxide dust:)

The MT Amphibian is an exceptional folder. Superb ergonomics, and phenomenal blade geometry. Strong lock, excellent steel. The hardest part is trying to find one.

You will not be disappointed - I waited a long time to get one, and wish I had done it earlier.

A vastly underrated knife.

I remember a few years ago there was a lot of dissatisfaction that the Amphibian production version was somewhat different than the prototype, but frankly I really like it the way it is. It is a solid, well designed knife with a cool look and a cool lock. The microbar is a real winner. It's a shame they're not making them regularly.

I have an Automatic Amphibian made in '02 with the anodized blade and 154 cm(marked 14-4 CroMo). It doesn't so much as have a scratch on it.
