I saw a LCC with this blade steel, its birthdate is 11/2002.
just wondering becouse i thought they were using S30V, and mt's website says 154cm. so if possible please clarify. thanks.

MT has thrown just about everything into the LCC in the past few months. (maybe they're working on kitchen sink Damascus ;)) I think it's in an effort to regain some of that aura of collectiblity that they have lost recently.

I think the S30v, S90v and others are just limited runs to spice things up a bit since the market for the knife in 154cm has probably waned a little.

I can't blame them, they have a winner of a knife, there's no reason not to issue it in some better steels. Not the best marketing strategy though, nothing like confusing the shi* out of your customers.. :)

I have one in S30V and love it.

Well, you didn't ask that... you asked for clarification which is what I tried to give you.

I think it's a type of Chrome Moly steel, I don't have any experience with it.

I was told that the 20CV is made by a different co. than S30V is and is almost identical to the S30V.

its just another question,
i found one for a good price and am wondering if it is becouse of this new steel.
acually i just found the site of the producing company in an older thread.
thanks all,

S30V and Duratech 20CV are no where near the same steel. They do both have 4% vanadium and are both powder metallurgy stainless steels, but 20CV has 20% chromium, 1.9% carbon, 1% molybdenum and .6% tungsten. S30V has 14% chromium, 1.45% carbon, 2% molybdenum and no tungsten.

I have never tried a knife that had a blade made from this steel, but from the looks its chemical makeup it certainly has potential.

Adam.., no in-depth knowledge forthcoming.., but as Keith mentioned...Duratechs 20CV is a "different animal" in the powder metalurgy domain.

I do have a knife maker friend that is goofing around with it.., and it does seem to have potential, so I guess we'll see??
