Hey guys, I've made a couple of posts about this under the Microtech Forums (knifeforums.com), and I think you guys should check it out:

http://www.knifeforums.com/ubb/Forum5/HTML/001415.html

This is very exciting for me, especially after Microtech listened to what the customers on the forums wanted, and producing exactly that (with the LCC-D/A, and other protos).

So how about everyone make a post of what type of balisong they would like to see Microtech make (materials - handles, blade type, blade material, etc.).

If you're not familiar with Microtech, check out their website at: www.microtechknives.com. They make really great cool automatic knives, as well as manual knives. Their quality control is top notch. Looks like Benchmade might be getting a little competition soon...

I look forward in hearing what you all think on this matter -

SWEET!!!!!!!!! I would definitely buy one of those. I think the reason most companies won't do it is because of the bad rep, but Microtech is a primarily automatic company. And since autos have about the worst image possible, I don't think they'd have a problem with making it.

BaliLover, that was one of my concerns... but it shouldn't be too bad. Microtech's quality is usually worth the extra bucks.

Anyone have an ideas on what they would like the MT Bali(s) to look like? Both production and custom models? I would really like to hear them (handle material, blade style, blade length, handle inserts, etc.).

I would like to see adjustable pins, removable latch, an OWNER interchangable blade, personally I like the Ti handles over heavy handles. I would like to see a few blade styles such as Tanto, Bowie, and probably a mutation of the Wee-Hawk.

Why, pray tell, do you want a removable blade?

I don't buy the idea of being able to change blade profiles. The cost savings isn't that great. Besides, what't the purpose? Do you wake up one morning saying, "I feel like a bowie today?" Of course not. Everyone pretty much settles into a blade profile they prefer.

Many companies have, in the past, tried interchangable blades in other types of knives and it had never done well in the market.

Were they to consult me, I would have suggested against such an idea.

Yeah, I'm with Chuck. I just don't see the purpose of having interchangable blades. BTW, what do you mean by a 'mutation of the Wee-hawk'? Just curious.

Another thing, what would you want Microtech's first balisong to be, assuming they decide to make one? I want it to be a bowie clip! But chances are, this thing won't happen for another year or so with all the stuff MT has lined up.

I would like to see it be something new and creative. Microtech isn't a me-too company and my guess, and I'd only be guessing, mind you, is that any possible Microtech balisong would be not be me-too either.

Adjustable pins, 4-5" stiletto/spearpoint blade (damascus, pref.), TI handles (pref. skeletonized), latchgate. And a box of Band-Aids.

Of course, I'd have to store it with some relatives in the US ...

Sometimes I get the idea that everything is ulterior ...

The ball is rolling, go over and be enthusiastic...you younger folks...please...no "killing comments" and way cool crazy B.S.

MicroTech word is, they have to sell 10,000 pieces. I know they can. It is a venture.

Replacement blades? Has Benchmade made them yet? I have not heard of them being available, and if they are not available by now they probably never will be. Furthermore, they should have never started that campaign to begin with as they are a company that has taken heat for a few years now with regard to Customers taking their knives apart to service them. It voids the warranty. So, with that in mind, it was goofy to put that idea out there anyway.

As far as MicroTech being expensive. What do you want? I can get a BM#42 for $99.95 I'd pay twice that for an MT Butterfly Knife, possibly a bit more. You get what you pay for.

Benchmade has no real competition and they should have never done away with the old line of knives to start with. It has made some folks have fat wallets, that's for sure...

It was rumored that Cold Steel was going to make one about 3 years ago.

I ask you, in all honesty, if Cold Steel, MicroTech and Benchmade were making Butterfly Knives, wouldn't we all be better off?

If Benchmade and MT and "X" Company were, wouldn't it be better? Competition breeds innovation and Quality Service. It also keeps the price in check.

I am simply amazed by people that would complain about a BM #42, which is basically a $100.00 knife as far as I am concerned because that is how much they go for around here, which means the Dealer can't be paying more than $80.00 for it...complain about that price...how can anyone complain about a fairly good quality, $100.00 Butterfly Knife?

How could anyone complain about a damned near Custom Quality MT Butterfly in the $200.00-250.00 range?

The fastest way to get some innovation and whatnot going is to give Benchmade some competition.

Don, very well said. I also agree that innovation is the spawn of competition, leading to better balis.

Benchmade replacement blades. I have heard a rumor that they were going to make a bowie blade sometime in early 2001, but I can't confirm, nor can I say that I even care. At first, the idea seemed cool, but then I realized that it served no purpose, except for sucking more money out of consumers/collectors. There is no point of getting replacement blades, unless for utilitarian purposes. The only way I'd buy a replacement blade over a new knife is if they offered a blade with some use (eg. fully serrated blade).

Don, just so you know, I think Microtech is going to start with custom balisongs before production balisongs (if they decide to do this whole thing)... so all 'way cool crazy BS' comments are welcome. You know Microtech, they like to go all the way with their customs.

I welcome the idea that there would be another quality Balisong in the market. Also agree that the competition could promote some fine innovations. Personally, heck ya I'd buy one...AT LEAST!

I don't think that 10,000 pieces would be any problem at all.

Just my two cents!

"Catch you on the flip side"!

I'd have to have at least one! I'm sure Tony could come up with a fine speciman of a balisong!!! If these guys with this CAD/CNC equipment had a notion, like our buddy Darrel, you'd be amazed at the balis that could be turned out! Don't ever let me win the BIG lottery and buy several hundred thousand dollars worth of machining centers.........

........and thanks KentDog for the great thought and post! Only time will tell............

I'd love to see some more competion (might bring down the price on BMs.)

I'd really like to see one fully serrated but other than that I'm sure MTs offering will be different in a new and exciting way.
