I’m looking to get one of these 2 for an everyday carry knife. I know they are on the larger size. I currently carry a Spyderco PM2. Does anyone have familiarity with carrying both and have you found any positives or negatives of one over the other.

Thanks

I’ve had and carried both. They’re similar in footprint for sure. They both feel substantial in the hand and in the pocket. The frame and blade shape (assuming you’re looking at SE models) on the Scarab is a bit more pleasing to the eye but the CT has better ergos due to the more pronounced wiggle in the frame. The actions are a bit different in hand too. The scarab has a much stiffer action compared to the CT being that I think they’re all QD now. The Scarab 2 also carries a bit more exclusivity, if that’s something that’s important to you. That being said I’d have to give my vote to the scarab.

I have and carry both. The action on mine are both about the same. The Scarab has an open frame with vents on the front and rear of the knife. I don't really know why it has these, but maybe it's a cleaning feature of the knife or fire under water or something. In reality it makes the knife fill up with pocket lint faster and will start to fire shitty. Make no mistake, this happens on both knifes, but just faster on the Scarab because of the holes on the front and rear of the knife. Both knives are easy to clean, but the Scarab uses common headed screws and the Troodon uses specialty screws with a proprietary head so you need the special bit for disassembly. Get whichever knife speaks to you. You will probably end up with both in the future anyway.

Also, I have a Scarab II with a double edge full serrated blade incoming this week.

Do you find yourself preferring to carry one over the other, say because the Scarab is thicker it doesn’t carry as comfortably when sitting down? About how often do you have to clean each in order to keep them firing well? I really like the blade on the Scarab as it looks a little taller in the S/E configuration but wish it had handle options that were more like the CT! The skate board tape look seems like it doesn’t belong on such a nice blade.

If I carry the Scarab for a month, it will need cleaning. The Combat Troodon can go longer. I don't prefer one over the other, in fact, I have so many knives, neither get carried very often. When new they both got carried a bunch. When my new Scarab D/E gets in I'll probably carry it a bunch. I like double edged blades and an OTF is the perfect carrier for a double edge to be carried safely.

The grip tape on the Scarab II is quite a bit different from the original Scarab. One complaint I had with the Scarab was that the grit on the tape would chew on your knuckles when you put your hand in your pocket. The Scarab II has the tape but with no grit, so it is not hard on your knuckles when your hand is in your pocket. However, this makes the tape on the Scarab II less grippy in the hand. Kind of seems like the tape on the Scarab II is only there to make it look like a Scarab.

Also, I had no idea the Scarab II was thicker than the CT until I looked at the photo above. They both seem to carry equally well to me.
