Microtech crosshair

I was given one a year or so ago and it has been my fixed carry in the field ever since. The sheath i have on mine locks it in like a mofo.

I have don just about everything with mine (sliced, chopped, skinned and some light- medium prying.) The only thing that I havent done much of is batoning( I have a BK2 in my camp bag that does that fine), my knife is blade on bottom serrations on top, but I am sure it would do in pinch.

Not sure how you were going to use it but, it will more than likely git-er-done,

I have heard that s30v is a brittle steel and I just wanted to know if anyone has used this knife. Thanks for putting my concerns to rest wintersix if you have done prying, chopping, etc than I'm sure it's strong enough.

Yeah a lot gets said about various steels and a lot of theory crafting goes into it. I am not a metallurgist, what I know is that any steel is still a piece of steel and steel trumps most things I encounter out in the bush. The sv30 is easy to sharpen and it keeps an edge.

Ideally their might be better steels, heat treats etc. I just tend to use what has worked for me in the past. Sv30 has never let me down.

Far lesser materials have served our ancestors for thousands of years and some of those folks really did put their blades to the test.

If I could foresee all possible variables then I wouldnt be in a survival situation....lol:)

Yeah that's true But I have seen a s30v blade being broken pretty easily but every blade is different. I really like the design of the crosshair and it seems that it would be really comfortable in the hand because of the handle shape. I just need to see what configuration I want..dual combo serrations, plain edge or half and half like yours.

Would you suggest your configuration or do you have second thoughts on your choice?

Mine is a new copy, recently purchased, in D2. The first thing I did was to remove the lanyard, since I see absolutely no purpose in this, other than bludgeoning your own hand with even the slightest defensive or offensive movements. Unless Microtech planned on this just being a steak slicer the lanyard only serves to have a bit of paracord around which I can carry in a dozen other places.

Aside from that, I really like this blade for survival, defensive tactics, and Filipino MA...
