I don't like knives with asymmetrical grinds.

wow, you mean its assymetrical like on the V grind Emersons??? The bevel is higher on one side than on the other??

That is what I mean. I know it's true of the standard Currahee, but I don't know if it's true of the tanto version.

I have several Emersons and its not a problem for me (not even chisel grind) What i would like to hear is: how this knife stands hard work. Edge holding, tendency to chip? Ease of sharpening. Sheath. Carry comfort. How does it whitstand prying. Cutting ability?? Overall impressions. But it looks that nobody owns a single Currahee :grumpy:

I don't have the tanto but the Currahee with the recurve is not an asymetrical grind. I am not sure which model you mean by standard. I thought there were only two choices on the blade design, modified tanto and spearpoint recurve (I prefer this one). I have given these to two young guys I know that went into the Army and they have held up well for them. I think they are great knives.

I really like aesthetics of the Microtech Curahee, but the grind I was a little skeptical of. Tactical Knives recently did a review on it and it was more than favorable, however. Based on that, I think it would be a tough and effective tool---Microtech doesn't make $#!@.

Sorry I couldn't offer more information than that---good luck.

I'd go with the Benchmade Nimravus. Less expensive for one. When I was a soldier we used to find all kinds of knives on the drop zone that troopers lost when making a jump. We also found knives that were accidentally dropped when troops were lying in position.
Customer service is another reason to go with Benchmade over Microtech. Microtech sucks when it comes to customer service. Not that you'd really need it for a fixed blade.
If your not familiar with the Nimravus, check it out here: www.benchmade.com

I was eyeing with the Nimravus, but its not what i really need. I have a sog seal pup elite which is pretty similar. + i cant stand aluminium handles. The nimravus has only .120 thick blade which is not enough for me at the moment. I would like something hardcore. I checked striders but the prices are way to high for me. ER same. My price range is <200$. Maybe i should stay with the Rat RC 5

I hear ya. I have no idea why BM switched the BLK Nimravus to aluminum from G-10. There are a few sand colored G-10 handles out there. I know what you mean when looking for a good fixed blade. I too have the SOG seal Pup elite. Not a bad knife but something more "substantial' would be nice. Let us know what you end up getting.

If you are looking for a small stout tanto for military use I reccommend the Strider EB-T. Its about the same size, has a better reputation for strength and quality control and a better warrenty. They both have about the same list price. I used a Stider EB-T here in Iraq and have no complaints.
