The other day PVK sent me an email and I couldn't resist clicking through to check out a listing for a Microtech paring knife. I have never owned a Microtech but love OTFs so this seemed like a good way to check out their quality firsthand, plus my main paring knife is one of the few middling quality pieces of cutlery I have so why not upgrade?

I gather these were just released so they should start being available soon.

Very nice knife, now I want a set of the steak knives too. The weight surprised me, most of my knives are Japanese and very thin & light.

I think $70 for a M390 paring knife is pretty reasonable, inline with the costs of the other kitchen knives I own (JCK Inazuma primarily) or would buy. Hell, I looked, the Japanese petty I use only for garlic slicing was $110 and that was purchased 8yrs ago so it would assuredly cost more today. We may have different opinions on value and cost so YMMV.

The knife is extremely well made and worth the price IMO. I'd skip the Ti bolsters personally which do raise the price a fair amount.

I have most of the models ( no chefs knife) and I can say they are very well made, and comparable in price to any of the “popular” makers top tier offerings. The pairing knife is great with a nice thin profile. The utility model is larger than I expected and and all around useful for small to medium large tasks. The Santuko 6” is one hell of a knife and imo worthy of using as a “chefs knife”, it is a beast of a blade. The boning knife, to me, is kind of redundant as the utility knife is so close in size. I don’t have the chefs knife but it will be a large beast of a blade for heavy tasks if its size, is THAT much more than the boning and Santoku 6”. The grips are thin and comfortable along the line of Asian style handles, which I prefer.
Overall, I like the lineup, which is why I’m selling my Tojiros , Yaxells, and some of my Enso’s.

I grabbed a boning knife since that's the last of my old knives I'd like to replace - still looking for a G10 Ember steak knife set. Just had a birthday so easy to excuse the impulse buy :D

Interesting design, but it seems quite thick for a paring knife.

The Benchmade Meatcrafter series must be selling well, because that seems to be what they've based these off of. They look cool, but like the Benchmade seem to be made by a company proficient with tactical knives and not kitchen knives, and priced pretty high for what they are.

I recently purchased the 6” santoku and the paring knife. So far I’m EXTREMELY pleased with them.

I’m especially thrilled with the steel, coming from the folding knife community, I know these kitchen knives will take an extremely well refined edge and hold it much better than most other high end kitchen knives I’ve checked out.

Was interested in a Benchmade Station Knife, but the Microtech 6” santoku is nearly the same blade shape, but (IMO) much better steel.
