Microtech DOC Inlay Changing?

I'm getting a DOC soon, and I'm curious about possibly changing out the grip tape inlays for something more aesthetically appealing. A friend of mine on instagram is trying the same thing, and experimenting with both ray skin and carbon fiber vinyl wrap. He's having trouble fitting them correctly, which I forsee being an issue for me, as well. How would you guys manage it in the case of the vinyl wrap? Also, what's your opinion on the idea of the modification itself? If you've done it yourself, I'd love some tips and pictures.
