Microtech folders... where did they go?

As I sit here fondling my beloved Socom Delta, it made me wonder: where the hell has Microtech been in 2014?

I'm talking specifically about their non auto folders. It seems like it has been forever since there was a run of most of the knives that are supposedly still in their production lineup. We haven't seen G10 handled Socom Delta TE's in probably a year, the clip point versions got maybe one or two runs before those disappeared into obscurity, and even the D.O.C.'s are becoming more difficult to find. Nevermind the Whaleshark, which apparently had its death knell sometime in 2013.

I know Microtech is a small company and that they were opening a new facility recently, but I wonder what gives? Microtech drama aside, they make some really impressive folding knives. I, for one, would love to see the company put more effort into producing folders.

I wonder if it has anything to do with places like Texas lifting the ban on auto knives? Maybe they were hit with a load of demand and are just focusing on that. Even my local shop, who is a HUGE Microtech dealer hasn't had but a couple manual knives the last couple of times I've been in there.

It would seem they are making lots of automatics these days and not so many manual folders. The knife law changes may have something to do with it, it makes sense. Also, Microtech is a super small company so expecting all their items to be in stock at all times is not realistic. Like all companies that manufacture anything, they have production schedules that they adhere too and often these are not publicized. You can sort of see what they are finished making as that is what is in stock at all the major retailers.

I'm having a fit for some SOCOM Delta clip points to hit the market. I agree with the OP; they are impossible to find right now. Oddly enough, it's easier to find SOCOM Elites which, based on my understanding, were superseded by the Deltas. Actually DOCs seem fairly readily available right now, and Whalesharks aren't too difficult to come across. My main issue is the Deltas. I agree with RevDevil and give MT credit on solid production of most of their OTFs. Ultratechs are plentiful, with HALO Vs, Troodons, Combat Troodons, Makora IIs, UT-X70x and Scarabs easy to score too. I even saw a Daytona/UT-X85 the other day, a model I thought was long-gone. I even scored a special color Combat Troodon with the tanto blade, which I had pretty much given up on finding.

I just snagged my dream Socom Delta in the exchange! Satin clip-point and G-10. This will replace my tanto serrated version. But as noted, they are impossible to find.

I know this for sure!! There warranty department is way backed up. They have had a socom of mine for about four months.
I would love to see a socom mini delta.

I haven't yet held a Microtech, although my buddy likes his a lot. The Socom Delta in 20CV was all the rage about two yrs ago, and dealers were all sold out following a YT rope-cutting test by jdavis. I attempted to find one at that time, but they were all gone.

I paid more than retail to secure my Socom Delta TE in satin finished CTS-204P and I do not regret it. The action and fit and finish on it are superb, as is the steel. However mine is literally from the first run of them back in July of 2012. Serial number 120. I wish they were more readily available so that people could actually experience them! The real shame is that they barely made any of the clip point models even though that is what most people would prefer.

I just find it so odd that OTF's and auto's are in such demand despite the restrictions upon them. You would think their cash cow (relatively speaking for a small company) would be on the more utilitarian models.

Autos are their bread and butter, hard to find any company based in the US that actually makes them better.

If you want a utilitarian folder, there are tons of options.
If you want a really high quality OTF auto, Microtech is up there at the top of the list. They may have noticed that they are selling way more OTFs these days and made a business decision to focus on that line.

BladeHQ has a lot of Socom Deltas around page 9-10 of their "Coming Soon" tab, so who knows, maybe there is hope for 2014....?

I hear you...
I would love to get my mitts on a Socom Delta Clip point!
I've also been hoping they will FINALLY release the full size Martrix this year!

I think the full size production Matrix is a unicorn... at this point it might behoove them to not even bother releasing it after all of the negative publicity surrounding it.

My socom mini that went in for service, just got turned in to a unicorn. Ha!!

Eek. I wish I had answers for you, but my experience with the warranty department was entirely reasonable. Slower than some companies, but still within their quoted time. This move they're in the process of really seems to be screwing with things.

Same for me, I remember your thread in Feedback.

There are Microtech folders at a store in New Hampshire:

Anax with ball bearing pattern damascus, in stock

Anax with blued raindrop damscus and flamed titanium, in stock

Anax with dark bronze coating, in stock

Full size Matrix models, in stock.

Seem to be customs from USN.

Yeah, you're probably right, I really like the design... Just too bad...

If its the shop I think you're talking about, they're the multi-thousand dollar customs.
I want the regular production version to use and I don't wanna pay $2K+ for a custom one.

Well, maybe we'll see some Socom Delta's with the clip point sometime soon...

Check the place where the pioneer went through the valley with his knives?

I noticed stock on Socom Elites with plain egde tanto blades in s35vn, also. There is stock of the Tachyon 2 bowie, but it's export only.
