Microtech Hype??

I noticed at the show how many Microtech's were present. I've never held or used one, so I took the opportunity to check at all the models. Seemed like some really fine work. I saw that many of the models were selling at really high prices.
Did I miss something? Are all these older lines discontinued and now high-demand collectors' pieces? Like I wrote, these knives seemed of pretty good quality, but what is so great that they are selling at custom prices?
I appreciate anyone's input to help answer these questions and make me a little more "informed." Thanks.

dens51,
I was not at the knife show, but I too have been intrigued by all the Microtech hype I've read about in the forums. So much so that I just got my first MT yesterday, a large manual SOCOM. It is an older model made(12/97) but it was new in the box. I thought the price was good compared to my search on the web for prices, the guy wanted $155. But, I traded him a BM CQC-7 and a SW 1251 auto even up.

I'm pleased with the feel and balance, the blade was extremely sharp and the knife seems to be very durable. Can't say much more after just one day. With that said, since there were so many of these knives produced I can't see what would draw the high prices. I felt my price paid was very reasonable, in fact, I probably wouldn't have got it had it been any higher.

For the microholics out there, what is usually used to make the laynard for MTs? Is it 550 nylon cord with the guts removed?
Thanks in advance, chieftd

the number of production steps to produce a MT is the highest out of the factory auto's being made today.

there is high demand for them and yes, they do reflect a higher price point esp for for some of the older pieces.

FYI, current prices for MT's range from 119.95 to 600+ for the regular production pieces and even more for factory custom level MT's.

like any product some folks can't see or even don't really care about the difference between a "porshe" or a "chevy". both are good cars but it's the details that make them different if you choose to look deep enough.
