I was thinking of getting one of these as I like the design
and the idea it's made in my new home state ; do any of you
forumite(s) own one of these or have handled one? It's either
the Krestal at $145 or a Spyderco Renegade & Worker commemorative for
$145. Which would you choose?

A.E.T. ;)

Welcome to Ft. Lauderdale! You'll want to go to a store called "Guns and Knives" on St. Rd. 7 just south of Commercial Blvd. As for the Kestral. I dont think you can ever go wrong with Microtechs, theyre extremely well made knives. There was a time when you could pick up any number of MT AUTOS in most of the local stores, now there are just a few brave stores still selling them, I'll tell you WHICH ones if you buy me lunch. :) I dont have a lot of experience with Spyderco's, but i doubt they could be superior to a comparably priced MT. Shoot me an email if you want to go shooting or gun/knife browsing one day, i know ALL the good spots. :)

Get the Kestrel or better yet a Vector. I've got a fairly large collection and the manual Vector is about my favorite. I've also got an auto Vector, but the manual version is a superior knife.

Allen,
I would go for the Kestral. Spydercos are nice knives,But, the Michrotec line tends to be a superior line of production knives. I have a Socom Elite and a Kestral. Both are perfect in fit and finish, lockup is bank vault tight and the materials are top notch. Also, as fast as Microtech discontinues models, it will most likely become collectable. That is my take at least. Have fun choosing. If you can, check out all of the knives in question in person, and handle them. You might like the feel of another knife better than the ones you are thinking of now. In person is great if you have stores close that carry good knives.
