Hi,
How can you distinguish an LCC Tactical (blk/blk) with Titanium bolsters from one with Aluminum bolsters? I am in the process of buying one and the seller is unsure of the bolster material. His knife is marked serial#4495 (P/N 300346) date 4/2001. Is it the Titanium version? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks, Shaun

All the aluminum bolstered ones are black from the anodizing process. The titanium ones are the natural metal color. If the knife you're looking at has a DOB of 4-2001 then it is probably the aluminum version. Just look at the bolsters, black = aluminum and natural beadblast gray = titanium.

Not True.

The Tactical was a special edition knife. I thought that all of the Tactical LCC's bolsters were Titanium, but that may not be correct. While what Kutch said is true of the regular LCC, it is not true of the Tactical.

Here is a link with the discription:

The tacticals all had titanium bolsters that were coated with black ti boride finish. Also had black ti boride coated blades and black hardware including the clip. They also have green linen Micarta scales and the bolsters are shorter like on the first LCC/MAs and gen 1 LCC/DAs. The label on the box indentifies them as the Tactical version. Patricks picture clearly shows these features.

The first LCC/MAs also had titanium bolsters but they were natural titanium color finish (grey metal), not black.

Current standard production LCC/MAs and LCC/DAs have black anodized hard coat aluminum bolsters that are longer than Gen 1s. The same length bolster has been used on Gen 2, 3, and 4 LCC/DAs as is currently used on current standard version LCC/MAs. If you need a pic, send me an E-mail and I will shoot you one showing the difference.

Bottom line...you can tell the difference between current production black coated al bolsters and the tactical versions based on the above discription, mainly the coating and length of the bolsters. Tactical LCC/MAs used black ti boride coated titanium bolsters that are the length of Gen 1s, current production LCC/MAs use black coated aluminum bolsters that are the same length as Gen 4s. One of the easiest differences to spot is the different angle where the bolsters meet the scales. The tacticals also cost about $50 more.

Forgot to mention that the tacticals also have green anodized spacers, another sure indicator that it is a tactical model.

Here is a pic of my Tactical. Hope it helps some. Your P/N 300346 is the same as mine. My birth date is 03/2001, S/N 4260. I bought mine from Patrick and it said on his website that it has Ti bolsters. Like Chief says mine has the green anadized spacers.
