Coming soon, from Microtech is the long awaited Greg Lightfoot D/A bolster release auto and manual LCC. This is a departure from the normal methods of manufacturing employed by Microtech in the past. Using the latest technology to combine form and function Microtech is now posed to bring us "knife nuts" a great looking and very functional knife, and at a great price!

The spring is a traditional style leaf spring, and made to Microtech's stringent tolerances. Also the LCC incorporates the new MT SS steal. What is MT SS? Who knows but like Carbon V and INFI it should be good stuff.

BTW, MT SS stands for Microtech Secret Steal which is now known to be made by Crucible and is called S90V.

Who is Greg Lightfoot?

Greg Lightfoot. "Look across the field of custom knifemaking and you will see many constants. Steel. The top knifemakers stay abreast of the state-of-the-art metallurgy in order to build the most effective edged weapons possible. Handle material. The latest space age synthetics grace the handles of top dog knives and new ones are popping up all the time. Truth is, there are very little technological secrets in the art of knifemaking in our digital age.

So what really separates one knifemaker from the next? Plain and simple...design, The knifemaker's sense of design is his greatest weapon. It is his edge over the competition. It is the very extension of the maker shaped, ground and honed into a statement he can call his own... one that others may copy, but no one can take away. And while many things are imitated and passed along among knifemakers, there is no mistaking an extraordinary sense of design. One can't buy it. One can't even copy it, because somewhere alone the line one's lack of it will bite one in the but.

Canadian Greg Lightfoot is one of those knifemakers that carries around with him a natural Zen for design. There is no hit or miss to his knife designs from one to the next. Rather, there is a consistent flow throughout his work that is both instinctive and distinctive. His knife styles are diversified but there is a singularity about them from one model to the next. For lack of a better word for it, Lightfoot's designs are...well..."together"

The manual versions should be available shortoy after the Blade Show and the D/A should be about a month later. Most all dealers (us included) are accepting back orders on these.

Why the change in appearance? The picture that MT has been running in their ads is a much better looking knife IMHO. The blade is more slender and has a choil on the ad pic, the bolsters on the ad pic are elongated at the bottom rather than the top and uses a Torx pivot pin and 2 screws as opposed to a plain pin and 1 Torx and the scales are now held on with 3 screws rather than 2. This knife looks nothing at all like the advertisement and I am bummed like you wouldn't believe. I would really be PO'd if I had put a deposit down based on their earlier picture only to have it look so much different. I was so excited over this knife and now I can care less. Why the change in design, was the actual production model never planned to look like their ad? I would hope that MT would be above this.

------------------
It's only a mistake if you fail to learn from it!

Blademan, If I'm not mistaken, the ones used in the adds to this point have been actual Lightfoot customs with the MT logo edited onto the photo.

PS: I heard that the scales would be green carbon fiber, those look black. Is it just the pic or was I misinformed?

The shape of that knife looks like you should be able to bring the whole edge down onto the cutting board when you pull your tactical folder to cut up chili peppers, garlic cloves, etcetera. But is it just me, or is that coated and bead-blasted Microtech finish harder to wipe clean than a plain satin finsh or tefflon? At least that's how it is when I use my DA Socom on edible stuff.

I don't see the need to call a folder is very good for doing mundane daily pocket knife work an "edged weapon." It's a question of good taste and not going out of one's way to be provocative. Yes, preparing oneself for self-defense in the gravest extreme is a good and life-sustaining purpose and no sin. And what a lawfully wedded couple does in bed is also a good thing and no sin, but they still usually close the curtains.

We all know that a knife that can do work can do damage, and both those who love "edged weapons" and those who loath "edged weapons" can see the potential without the manufacturer saying it out loud in its advertising.

Let the knife speak for itself.

I don't care if they use 154CM for the blade, I don't care what color the scales are, I don't care if they have changed the lines a little bit, I just want one!

The Carbon Fiber will be black on standard production versions. I think they are awesome and can't wait for them myself!

Irrevelent, but is is just me or the pic, or does the blade spine to handle transition look a little choppy?

------------------
You could put nacho cheese sauce on it...

In the high res scan I have it looks even better. No choppy transition from spine on it. It may of happened when I converted the pic to a 500 pixel "jpg".

Also I just got a nasty gram from someone who told me no pics are supposed to be posted til after June 1st. Oh well I guess no one told me that

The scales are black and the first few had SS bolsters. Look for Ti on the regular run. Again the manual should be out hopefully by the Blade Show and the D/A about a month later. Regular leaf spring too which is partly the reason for the lower cost. This is the first Microtech I have seen in a while with "CLASS". Thanks to Tony and Greg for such a KICK ASS knife!
