One of the Auto rags has a feature section in which they go back and check up on cars they've driven and reviewed in the past. Just to see how they are holding up against the wear and tear the owners are heaping on them in every day use.
Having just recently acquired a Lg. M/A Tanto SOCOM, I thought it would be a good idea to see how the SOCOM species is holding up for you, the owners and operators of these slick looking beasts.
Soooo, how is yours holding up? Is it "all that"? Is it all you expected of it? Is it performing for you like you expected when you laid down all those duckies for it, or is it a dead duck with an edge?

The Microtech SOCOM was the primary competitor to the new BM730 in choosing my first folder. I picked the Benchmade 730S (primarily because I got such a great deal!). But I think I'll have to drop the cash for just one more good folder before it's all said and done.....and I think it'll have to be the SOCOM. Great knife!

Repeat after me...

"Gottahava730"..."Gottahava730"...."Gottahava730"!

Yes, its all that...and more! I prefer the plain edge clip point but that is just my preference. MT is coming out with a new MA SOCOM called the SOCOM Elite that has their new Microbar lock (bigger liner lock) and improved ergonomics.

Got mine 2 years ago.
Clip point, black, plain...

It went back to the dealer when I drop it on the bathroom floor and never opened again... The manufacturer replaced the handles. (thanx god I bought the extended warranty!)

Then at 35K miles went back again for sharpening.

After several scratches on the blade, I decide to "antique finish it" so no more scratches and people really like it!

so far so good!

My SOCOM M/A was last years big purchase. I really like it. Funny thing though, I have never carried it regularly. Not sure why. It's solid, sharp and pretty nice. It's still one of my favorites.

This plain, black Clip point still has the breakin oil in it and hasn't needed changing. Now why would I buy a new one and leave it in the garage? Hmmm . . .

BTTT.
Surely there are more Microtech SOCOM owners out there.
So, folks are your SOCOM's still working or have they all turned to mush?

Praises?
Complaints?
Do you still carry yours or is it collecting dust in the drawer?

I have a full size Socom, clip serrated plain. I don't carry it anymore. I usually carry my large Sebenza or my Warren Thomas titanium/carbon fiber. I've had my Socom for almost a year. It is still quite sharp. It has failed the whack test every time but I am not worried about it.

I own 3 MA Clip point Socoms, 2 large and one mini. All are partially serrated. They function perfectly, and passed my spine whacking tests. I must add that their role is that of defensive folders. So besides training, they don't see much action. I carry one daily.

I have a total of (3) Lg. M/A Socoms, & (1) D/A Socom. I got my 1st a little over a year ago. My favorite daily carry knife is a M/A, clip point w/plain silver blade. I have tested the lock by striking the spine with a tomahawk handle, with no failure @all.The Socom has held an edge well, and is pretty easy to resharpen. The only reservation I have @ all is that the blade (like almost every "tactical" knife) is a little too thick. I believe that it woiuld slice a bit better if it were 1mm thinner. The trend seems to be toward thick blades among most makers.
Overall, it is an excellent knife.

i purchased a socom tanto about 2yrs ago,i switch it's carry with a new synergy i love them both.the blade has stayed sharpe and no other problems.

I've had my SOCOM for over a year now and it's still my first choice for a defensive tactical folder. It has held up great (except for when I dropped it on the kitchen floor and broke the tip off the blade--MT fixed it up free of charge). This knife has never failed the spine whack test for me. Although this knife is razor sharp, my daily carry knife is usually a large sebenza or spyderco delica, because I prefer the thin edges for everyday slicing tasks.
