Hello all. Only my second post, but every one was a lot of help with my first. I need any info you have on the Macora from Microtech. I really want one of these knives but dont know if they are worth the money. Just bougt two Lone Wolf Knives and am trying to talk the wife into a Macora. Thanks.

i've got a makora fireant double plain edge and really really like it, its my favorite OTF auto, i really like the design. i dont carry mine too much, only occasionally, mostly open mail with mine lol, but i have played around with it quite a bit and they are much sturdier than ya would think, i have opened/closed mine hundreds if not thousands of times and its always worked fine, gotta remember not to over lube though, i like the red handles on the fireant better than the black FWIW, great knives though, of all my knives its my sons and my girlfriends favorite, she said of all of them its the only one she can see being worth $400, if that means anything lol.

the scarab and others are cool too though, i just slightly prefer the makora.

as far as being worth it, they are imho worth it, most any decent OTF is gonna run ~$350 or so so they are right in line with other models/brands, i very much prefer microtech for most any style auto, there OTF autos have every other production auto all beat to heck imho.

i have really enjoyed playing with mine.

Your wife is right but we won't tell her that..., at least not about this. I have had a UTX7,000 (or whatever letters/numbers combo it was [tiny freakin' knife]), a Scarab and now have a Troodon. I think it is closest in size to a Makora, and I like the Troodon a lot. If you want a quality OTF, SIFU1A (yet another suspicious lumbers/netters combo) is right you are gonna spend that much $$. However it is not all that realistic for a work-type knife unless you are primarily opening packages/letters with very limited stickum. At least it doesn't seem so to me. However it is way-cool and that's why we like them, now isn't it? :D

right know i switch between a Emerson CQC 10 and the new Lone Wolf D2 D/A for work. If I am going to spend that much on the Makora I want to use it not just sit it in my knive basket with the others. If Im reading you right you dont think the makora will stand up to every day use.

If I am going to be using a knife much, I make sure to carry a side-opener that day. While I am sure many will disagree with me, many OTFs are glorified letter-openers. Quality OTFs are built with tight tolerances to reduce blade-play. However that means anything that gets up in the mechanics, like tape adhesive, pocket lint, or armadillo toe-jam, will negatively impact their functioning -- potentially keeping them from opening or closing. I think a lot depends on what your version of "every day use" is. Some folks have reported hard use of Scarabs, and maybe Combat Troodons, but I use my Troodon pretty sparingly. I still think it is the bee's knees, but it gets limited use; YMMV.

sure they would stand up to edc use, they are stronger than ya would think.

If my wife says ok than yes you will be seeing some pics. Keep your fingers crossed for me. Thanks all.

I wouldn't use the makora for one reason and one reason only: Microtech stopped making knives this year. They aren't even considering knife production for another two years if ever. Hold onto it if you get one!

I heard that also. Called Micarotech and thet informed me that they had just started making knives again for six months. Microtech told me that they sut down the knife plant every 6 months to make guns.
