I'm thinking about grabbing one, It's a Beautiful Microtech. Love the CF Inserts and glass breaker, and Especially LOVE the 4.5 Blade length. Im I big guy and like Big Knives. atleast 4'. 4+ autos/folders are great:D I have a few and have had a few. NEVER HANDLED THIS ONE. The Blade is LONg. It's Fairly thin looking. in Pics. Anyone that has, or handled one, Is the Blade TOO thin? To thin to the point Of Being Weak and worthless? Thin enough to beak if actually used? My Others where completely SOLID. But maybe the Pics are deceptive and it's Thick, around, just long and Slender? Any advice? Or if it IS Too Fragile any Other suggestion that might be similar?
Thanks in advance,

any MT OTF auto is plenty heavy duty enough for SD, i wouldnt go prying with one though, so i suppose it depends on what ya want it for, but for what they are designed for, self defense, they are anything but weak or worthless.

i have a std makora fireant and have had it for a few yrs now, had been working fine but a few months ago it locked up and i had to send it to MT, though i dont carry it a lot i do play with it quite a bit and it had been opened thousands of times, IIRC its an '04 or '05 model, & i got it new so its ~ 3 or 4 yrs old now, and up to the point it locked up never a problem, and MT fixed the thing for free too.

imho the OTF MT autos are as good as it gets until ya start talking about custom OTF's, & i'm sure ya would be happy unless ya want a OTF for a utility knife to pry with, if thats what ya want get a fixed blade.

Well I Got My SMF for Utility and for Prying, and a Cop tool and Pry Baby. The Makora Is JUST For SD. Thats It. Maybe open a letter, But Just for SD. It Just looked oddly thin compared to others in the pics, and I never handled one so I was curious. If it's Like other Microtechs, then Perfect:D

Thanks, Merry Christmas.

P.S. Did they have any issues with them fixing it being non leo or active Military? In my state they are legal to Own. just not Conceal. Just curious. BM won't fix auto's unless you're leo or active. No matter where you live. Never ever ever had to send in a microtech. They ROCK!!

OTF Autos are cool machines and fun to play with but self defense??? I would never carry one for that.

First of all in most states they are illegal. So if you are willing to carry an illegal knife I would carry a fixed blade. In a proper sheath it is faster, can be concealed and is a much better choice in a fight.

The only thing OTF autos are good for IMO is a cool toy to play with. If you insist on one Microtech is about as good as it gets though. Everything they make is excellent quality.

My advice concerning Microtech would be to handle the knife before you buy it. Their QC has become spotty in the past few years. I recently bought an Ultratech from a local dealer. It is flawless. I bought a Socom Elite Auto online a while back. It had serious blade play issues that were still unresolved after I sent it back to Microtech. Try before you buy or make sure that your online dealer has a reasonable return policy.

My Dealer has a reasonable return/replace policy.

Sorry Bro But a 4.5 inch Dagger blade 11 overall Is PLEANTY Good for Self Defence,LOL.;) It can Hit ANY Major Organ and EVEN the elusive Subclavian Artery. Plus it has a Skull Crusher so I wouldn't even have to open it. And If the Spring Fails, It still Locks Like a gravity Knife.

I have Many Many FBs. I EDC an SMF and a Strider SA S.O.B. and a ZT boot Knife in My Boot. So the FB for SD suggestion is already covered, Just asking Makora Owners if they LOVE it.

And Besides, No Getting around it, the Makora Is about as Sexy as Eva Mendez:D

And thats half the reason I want it. Besides it's Covert De-animation Purposes,LOL. and as for legality?? I DO NOT Follow Unconstitutional Laws Past By Idiots that want to "Heard the Sheep". I'll Do the stretch and deal with the Cops If it came to that. I could care less about them, and Especially NOW That I am EMS I can carry whatever I want. But Before I still Did, Plus My State allows Possession of Autos, Or Ownership I should say.
But they Don't allow 1911s IWB without a permit.

ANYWAY..........Makora Owners? Any thoughts?

Otherwise, SIFU1A, Thanks:thumbup:

I am not saying that it won't work or that they could not be leathal, but that it is a relatively complex mechanism and I like to follow the KISS principle where possible. I did say that if you really wanted to carry an OTF then any one of the Microtech's is about as good as they get, so yeah a Makora is a good knife of that type. I have played with the Makora and I own a UT-6 which as I said is fun to play with but I would never consider relying on it as a self defense weapon.

Sorry but I don't care how reliable that complex action is I am not betting my ass on it and they are not nearly as strong or as effective or as safe to the owner as a fixed blade. If I am carrying for the express purpose of self defense it is going to be something more like one of these. I can deploy them faster and they have greater reach, cutting power and are safer for my hand do to the guard. They are for the most part very concealable as well depending on the type of rig I wear.

stolas223-- I thought I wanted a Makora as well until I handled one. I wear a size XL glove, but I found the handle too large- it was almost impossible to comfortably transition from forward to reverse grip because the handle is so long. As well, despite Microtech's reputation, upon handling the knife and feeling the action I felt like this knife would not stand up to the demands of a daily carry blade, much less for self-defense applications. Keep in mind that I do not own one, this was just upon handling one. I am glad that I did not purchase one sight-unseen. Handle one before buying! Hope this helps...

i had to mail it in thru a bud who owns a gun/knife store.

sure FB's are more reliable and would be a better choice than a makora for SD, but then again a kahr PM9 would be better than either lol, i wouldnt worry too much if i was stuck with a makora for SD if a knife was the only option though, and though i have 3 of the best edc SD FB's made ( a nealy amoeba, pesh kebz & a polkawski companion) i rarely if ever carry a FB, they are just a lot more difficult to deal with daily vs my emerson specwar CQC13 or my spyderco ti ATR.

but sure, if i was expecting trouble and no firearms are allowed i would choose my mad dog SEAL ATAK2 over any folder.

Unless MT has changed the design of the Makora the blade is more like 3.5" in length. the handle may be 4.5" in length. The Scarab and the Combat Troodon are the biggest of the lot and both of them are still less than 4.0" in length.

Yes they have. The Makora 2 and it is huge. I have one and love it. It is the first MT with two piece frame screws a huge plus. I always had a problem with the old screws stripping out just from firing too often. Here is a pic I found second from top.

I carry my MT Daytona just for something cool to have around and play with. I don't specifically carry it for SD but I'm sure it would hold its own. :D

I was about to spend the cash for a MT makora 2 but saw one in person and the lockup which everyone on youtube/online said was like a safe was total crap. I have so far seen 2 in 2 different stores which were brand new and they lockup does not justify the cost to me. I mean its fun and all but I'd rather buy a gun then just a toy right now cuz I'm strapped for cash but thats just me. If you got a few bucks to blow, why not. Sure its a nice knife but dont expect the lock up to be anything like a safe. It wobbles back and forth and its just too loose for me. No lock back knife (no matter how cheap) I have ever seen has blade play this bad. I will eventually buy one but that is way into the future.

P.S. It's not really that long. I mean considering I ecd a tilite 6incher, it makes the makora feel very small. True it might be the longest OTF but thats sorta like saying your the smartest of the retards, your still retarded.
