Microtech Mini Socom Elite

The Manual Version is still not out yet. Last I heard was a week ago, and that was the Tooling was done and it was do to start hitting the shelves in 2 weeks. Which means Next week we should see someone starting to get them in.

I havn't even seen one of those babies. I'll search after this reply, Maybe I'll pick one of them up instead of a mini socom.

ric0shay ,

In case you haven't heard yet, the mini Socom Elite has alittle more size to it than the older Mini Socoms. It is also a framelock  :)

The Socom Elite has an aluminum handle. Will the Mini Socom Elite be an aluminum frame lock? I wonder how well that would wear.

Yes the new Mini Socom Elites Frame locks are made of aluminum. I don't expect to many problems with it. This subject has been covered before. I am not sure if it was here or Microholics. But if you do a search, you may find the thread I am talking about. MT stands behind there products, especially when it comes to materials and craftsmanship. The fact that its a manual will also help in the return process if there ever was a problem. Although I prefer Ti when it comes to frame locks, I wouldn't let the fact that its aluminum persuade me from buying it the DAY it hits the market

For those who haven't seen them yet, here is a pic of the Prototype

(Check out the two safety screw towards end of lock bar. Maybe thats securing a Ti tip????)

Are the new autos out with the grippy inserts? I haven't found a website with good pictures of one besides microtech's own site. I'm really interested in the full size auto.

If those little screws loosen up, how do you go about tightening them?? Do they provide a special tool?

NO, I imagine they are loctited up. There are a few folks working on making a tool for disassembly and tightening for us Microholics :)

TBG, what coating are on those blades? I am seriously thinking about getting one of those autos and that 940TI that I started a thread for. Might just have to join the volunteer firefighters so I can carry an auto :D :D

Give me your thoughts on those knives and whether you prefer the larger size over the small or vice versa. Thanks in advance.

Well. Ok I will start from the top. The ones I took pictures of and post below are all Stonewash. I would say its my preferred MT finish. As far as size goes. I like LARGE knives, BUT a large majority of the Socom Elites have a Well around the release button, and I HATE that. I have a couple with out them and they are way better, but they are becoming rare and I wouldn't count on finding one. The Mini Socom Elites are not even Mini to me. They are awesome knives and at a great price right now, I highly recommend everyone get one.

The have the Grip Tape inserts instead of the rubbery Kryton inserts. But if they are not to your liking, you can always replace them with Rayskin or the material of your choice
