MT's customer service has been spotty, at best, over the last few years. Also, in that time frame, bad feelings escalated between the owner of MT and some of his previously-loyal customer base. So any mention of MT, especially the owner, will often result in strongly divided opinions. This is due, in my view, to two things:
1) MT owner operating his business in a manner that is consistently detrimental to others involved with him. a) Many well-known knife makers have worked with him for short periods of time and then will having nothing to do with him, other than suggesting he is not a good person (PG version of what I’ve heard directly from one). b) MT owner has alienated a vocal group of long-term, knowledgeable MT collectors.
2) MT owner has contributed to some of the most innovative designs and well-made knives in our hobby.
So when you ask how their customer service is, well it varies; some report getting their knives back in weeks; some report not having seen their knives for years. To me, I would be most concerned about MT’s poor CS reputation were I purchasing a DA or auto. Your manual version will have fewer parts to go bad, so if it is coming from a trustworthy trader, I tend to think you will be fine.
I don’t know the original MSRP for these, but the DA version often goes for around the same as LCCs. A mint DA LCC just sold for 550 American dollars on ebay! Anyway, perhaps the MA version of the MTX2’s value is consistent with the value of a MA LCC? I was offered a couple of MA LCCs recently (not mint, both had some scuffing) for $245 each. As to the MTX2 itself; I often thought it looked kind of clunky and figured I wouldn’t much like one. However, when I handled one at a weapons’ show I found it felt quite nice in the hand. And, my sketchy memory suggests that most reports on them are positive.
all da best,
rats...
p.s. MT is not currently producing knives, but custom versions, offered at crazy high prices, seem to be leaking out. As far as I can tell only rumor and innuendo exist, about when they will resume high number knife production.
