I wanted to take a minut to give a short review of this knife.
Image2.jpg

This pic is from the MT web site.

I just recieved the knife yesterday fom 2 The Hilt.

BLADE: The blade is pretty thin, but not too thin to be flimsy. It's made of 154-cm. It is very wide and is hollw ground. There is a hole in the blade to facilitate opening, and it is easy to access. The finish I got is Stone Washed and looks like the stone washing on any other MT with this finish. There are a few thumb grooves on the top for extra control during cutting.
HANDLE: One half of the handle is carbonfiber. It is a bit more polished than the type on the LCC handle. The other side is stainless steel. The handle is wide and thin but is also pretty ergonomic for what it is. The pivot screw is adjustable and is of the torx type. In fact all the screws are torx on the knife. There are two polished thin back spacers. The lock is integrated into the stainless side of the knife. There appear to be phospher bronse washers at the pivot point.
CONCLUSION: This is just a cool little knife. It has been in my wallet all morning and is very comfortable to carry. As usuall MT has left no ston uncovered on this knife. Fit and finish ar top-notch. This will be very handy for self defense as well as utility. The nice thing about it is, if it's in my wallet I never have to worry about leaving the house without a knife (unless I forget my wallet). The cool thing is if I set off the metal detector at the court house, I can blame it on the badge in my wallet. They would never see this little baby hidden in the buisness card holder. Great knife. Sorry if this review stinks, I just wanted to let you all know what a nice knife this is.

Thanks for the review!

I got to handle one last weekend. Upon looking at it, my first thought was: does anyone at Microtech actually own a credit card? :) The Option II is quite a bit thicker than the Spydercard, and definitely too thick for wallet carry for me (I like my wallet as thin as possible). However, I don't carry "credit card" knives in my wallet anyway -- the flat profile leads to really comfortable front- or back-pocket carry by itself, no need to put it in your wallet if you don't want to. Since I agree that the Option II is nicely done, I ordered a stone-washed one myself, and am anxiously awaiting its arrival. My first Microtech!

Anyway, back to the point: don't dismiss this style of knife even if you think they're too thick for your wallet; they can carry very comfortably on their own.

Joe

I've seen the knife too and it didn't seem thicker than my Spydercard however, it did open, close, and cut smoother. The CF side wasn't as slick as I expected but I probably wouldn't stab with it. I'd say it's a good step up from the other credit card knives for the money.

I just got one as well, Black blade model.

My first impression was basically WTF is this? It looked like a fish.

After the usual examining and playing I really kind of fell for the ugly duckling and it's found a home in my wallet ever since.

BTW, if you want an awesome wallet for carrying the Option II I would suggest the non Velcro Columbia bi-fold wallet, it has the absolute perfect place to keep the knife.

Here's a pic..

so, uh dexter, where can i fiind this wallet? it isn't on columbia's site, nor anywhere else i could find on the web. does it have a model number i could reference?

thanks

USAFSP,

thanks for the review.

I like the design and consider to buy one but the reason for my post is:

What a picture! :barf:
Whensoever I see it, it’s hard for me to understand that Microtech use this lousy picture on their own Web site. Please update this!

As Joe said, a bit thick for my wallet, but perfect in any other pocket. I think the Option 2 might pass airport scrutiny, but I don't particularly feel like being the lab rat...

Oh yeah, the blade shape strongly reminds me of my old Tekna credit card model, but the MT is light years better.

I agree that it's a bit large for wallet carry, but the wallet option makes for really discreet carry. I have been carrying in my pocket for a day now and find it really comfortable. Whatever the carry you choose this knife is a home run. Great quality and price!:D

where'd u guys get yours, and what seems to be a decent price on it?

thanks

I'm not Dexter but I think you were talking to me... ;)

Here is the info,

I bought the wallet from Gallians (sp?) in Columbus Ohio. I think they are a chain though. I got it 2 weeks ago and paid almost $8 for it.

Here is the UPC from the tag - 047559735243 There is another number that I don't know what it is - 6102-627.

Good luck finding one.

FWIW & IMO, it will be worth the trouble because it fits the knife like it was designed for it. Not too heavy either.

I got mine yesterday! Impressions are decidedly mixed.

The good: Very nice looking, fit and finish is excellent. The carbon fibre really looks nice. The action on the Option II is much better than the action on the Spydercard before I Militec-1'ed the Spydercard. It's close to the action even post-Militec-1. Once I lube up the Option II, I expect the action will be positively silky. The blade came razor sharp.

The (slightly) bad: The Option II is 25% thicker than the Spydercard, which doesn't sound like much, but it is a bit more noticeable in the pocket. This is really a minor nit, but I had to keep with the "good, bad, and ugly" theme.

The ugly: I've always had a low opinion of Microtech's locks, so it's somewhat poetic I suppose that the lock on this one is unacceptable. The integral lock engages with authority. However, I was opening the knife gently, but the lock would stick badly. I had to reposition the knife so I could dig my thumb in deeply enough to unlock it. I also began to notice a loud plasticky *click*. Upon further examination, the lock was engaging all the way to the far right side; the click, I surmise, is the ball bearing smacking hard up against the inside of the carbon fibre scale. Lest you get suspicious, I'll re-emphasize that I only opened the knife a few times, always gently -- I not only didn't spine whack or white-knuckle the knife, I really didn't even plan on doing so, considering this more of a gents' folder.

I'll be sending this knife back, I just haven't decided yet whether to ask for a refund or take my chances with another.

Joe

I would take your chances with another one if you like the overall design intent of the knife.

I am also in the camp of the people who had given up on MT locks, my LCC was the only one I was ever satisfied with (button locks excluded).

My Option II liner lock engages the tang at the exact point I think it should. (in this case about 50% of the blade thickness)

I think you may have gotten a bad one...

I am sorry to bring this back to the top after say, 1 1/2 years, But this review is just what I was looking for. I plan on getting one real soon and was hoping someone threw a review up here at one point or another. I really think Kevin should put together an archive CD and sell them for a small profit :)
