Hi I am trying to decide which one of these brands I should pick up?
If I go Microtech it will be the Socom Elite Tanto auto.
Are the MOD knives better than this?
What makes the Microtech auto worth it ?
HELP????

Also How reliable is the lock on the microtech? Is it a plunge lock?
I know the MOD's are liner locks,is the one on the Micro any better?
Any info a plus
Thanks

I honestly don't have any experience with MOD but Microtech's are the proverbial stuff. I worked with a state nuisance alligator trapper in fla and have had a SOCOM Elite auto for about a year. It was nice to have something that size and opening easiness around those critters. I haven't had any problem with the plunge lock. It's been through some tough jobs and hasn't failed yet. Its definitley the sharpest knife I have ever owned and is the easiest to keep sharpened at razor edge. (Yes I ahve shaved with it in a pinch) If its legal for you to carry it the SOCOM will be well worth the price. Go for it.

The MOD CQD series all have plunge locks in the auto and manual line.

In my experience both have excellent quality. If you compare overall quality and craftsmanship of the line I think MT has a slight edge, especially in auto's.

If you ask me what the best knife in either line is I'd pick the CQD MKII. IMO this is one of the hottest production knives going.

Here you can see my 3 fast-openers. As for quality of manufacturing and overall sweetness U.D.T. is far above the rest IMHO. Go for Microtech. My MT auto (EDC for over a year) is much smoother and quicker then MOD (6 months old, not EDC). Fit and finish on MT are much better and it's perfect in every detail. And just take a close look at MOD's blade and especially a row of small holes - far from a stright line... OK, it's a small detail but is shows that QC on MOD knives is just not so perfect.

Boy, tuff call. I love them both and while I have more MT's than MOD's, the fit and finish on both is just too close to call for my eyes. I have users in both and lookers in both, and while I gravitate to the L-UDT for certain hours of a day, I also slide a Hornet into my pocket. But then again I like Kershaw and CRKT, and there are a few super benchmades..Oh yeah MT or MOD...I say get two of each to start!!!!wolf

MOD's folders are consructed in very similar fashion to the Microtech SOCOM, but if I had to choose between MOD and Microtech, I'd go with Microtech.

IMO the quality of Microtech knives is better but this means not that the quality of MoD knives is bad, I think it’s more a question of the intended purpose/design preferences than a question which brand is better. The MoD model palette has no folder that is comparable with the Microtech SOCOM Elite Tanto Auto model and vice verca the Microtech model palette has no knife that is comparable with the Razorback or the CQD Mark 2 for example.

I have 3 MT and 2 MOD (all manual)and I think MT much better.

With that in mind, I think the only models that could be comparable are the ladyhawk and kestrel/vector. (I give MOD the edge on this one in manual, MT the edge in Auto)

I agree that they are very hard to compare in almost any way except material used.

IMO & experience, neither one of them makes a liner lock that is perfect (MT LCC being the best). If I were going for an auto it would be a MOD CQD MKII then any other MT. If I were going to choose a manual it would be the MOD CQD MKII because all MT has is liner locks.

Hope I didn't make my opinion sound too confusing... :)

Hey Thanks guys I went with a MOD Trident belive it or not LOL..
I like the size blade shape plus in fits better(plus looks wise in my suit)in the pocket.
What are your opinons on this knife was it a good choice??
Thanks for any replies

Socom Elite has a rock solid lock and the fit and finish is excellent. I wish the Socom Elite tanto came in MA. I can't believe the Socom Elites are discontinued. I would get one before they become too hard to get.
