i have been reading here for about a month, and i would like to say that this is the best knife site that i have found. now on to my questions. i have recently gotten interested in knives, and im about to make my first nice knife purchase. i am considering a microtech socom elite or a wilson combat series super grade here. which of these do you think would be the best user and edc? thanks in advance for all replys.

i like microtech but never been a fan of the socom shape, but it's a very good knife, the DDR knife also seems very good but the price difference is pretty big so it's up to you how much you wanna spend.

Wow, that sure is a pur-dy lookin' knife. No doubt about that, and it's got the Darrell Ralph pedigree behind it.

For that much money, I hope you get to handle it first.

A bit of a gamble though isn't it since Wilson Combat is rather new to the knife scene. I'm sure Wilson wouldn't risk their reputation on a sub-par product but it doesn't help when other firearms companies are licensing their names, wholesale, to mediocre knife designs.

At least with Microtech, you know you are buying from a company that specializes in knives and getting a proven product. I'm trying to save up for a SOCOM Elite myself.

If you buy the Wilson, let us know what it's like!

I haven't seen a Wilson, but my SOCOM Elite is one of my all-time favorite folders. Superb lock-up, and fit and finish approach the custom level.

That Wilson does look nice, however.... ;)

Wow, that Wilson folder sure looks great!

I gotta second what Manji wrote, I somehow dislike the Socom Elite shape, however, I like the look of most other Microtech knives.

Wilson is pretty unknown in the knife world so far, but they use top materials.

You can´t go wrong with Microtech´s quality, but if I were you I would probably give the Wilson a try - but I never handled one nor do I recall any review about this brand´s knives.

I got to see the Wilson at a gunshow this past weekend, side by side between my large Sebenza and a M/A Socom, the Wilson was right up there with my large Sebenza! If I hadn't already just bought my Sebenza, a Custom jigged bone liner lock, and a Volquartsen Custom .22 rifle, I might have gotten the Wilson.

I kind of share Full Tang's feelings. Ryan Wilson is new on the scene. Although, he does use quality materials. Too early to tell how well made his knives are. Having Wilson Combat and all the gun rags behind him is helping to make a name, but will his product live up to that name?????? That remains to be seen. I hope so. I live the cosmetics of his knife.....

However, I made a SOCOM Elite my EDC knife for about a year now. It is one tough folder. Am very happy with it. I happen to be partial to its looks, too.

The Wilson is a design collaboration with Darrel Ralph. Both makers are supposed to play a part in their final assembly and finishing while the parts are machine made.

I held a proto last year and it was decent, but I didn't think it matched the Sebenza.

Unfortunately you're not comparing apples to apples so given a choice I would go with the Wilson because it's a titanium handled frame lock.

Be prepared to wait for it though, there is quite a line of standing orders and they have not started shipping yet.

right now my fav production folder is my MT socom elite w/brend grind blade - a very good knife, imho, one of the very best available from anybody, like i say my fav and i have a few to choose from, prod and custom..........and the only knife i own i like to carry better or at least the same, is my crawford perfigo, and my emerson SOCFK, not bad company to be compared too, imho.

must admit the wilson looks pretty good, and darrel dont make junk, that i promise ya........
