Microtech problem

Hey guys. Just got my first Microtech Socom elite. Wanted it for years and they are hard to get in Australia. Finally got one from Eknives in the US. On day one the blade wiggles. If I deploy the blade it doesn’t lock up properly. The only time it secures tightly is when I put pressure on the lock bar. Is this a common problem? Very disappointed

Just to be clear, are you talking about the USA-made liner lock version ?
If so, I have one and it locks up just fine so I would definitely call or email Microtech directly.

Edit to add: could it be that the pivot just needs to be adjusted? Usually, blade play means it is too loose, and that can definitely affect the lock up….maybe it could be adjusted…?

Yes the Socom Elite is the USA made Microtech. The Socom Bravo is the one made in China.

I have 2 Socom elites and they are AMAZING. Extremely sold lock up, zero blade play in any direction, no lock stick, great detent. You must have received a bad one somehow. I’d return it if you can.

Had a similar issue with a SOCOM Elite I picked up last year, sent it back to Microtech and they fixed it without complaint. Works great now, was annoyed to have to send it in for a repair so soon after getting it, especially since it was hard to find. It's understandable how the defect slipped through quality control because it didn't always do it, and things get messed up from time to time. Microtech handled it well and made it right, so in the end it all worked out well. Sorry to hear you got a bum one, buy enough knives and its bound to happen eventually.

Yeah the USA made knife. It’s weird cause I only buy USA made knives and microtech is on point. Never had any issues and I’m a bit stunned that on day one it’s already damaged. Been wanting this knife for so long….

Cheers mate. Now I’m going to have to send it back to America from Australia. What a pain in the backside

I checked a video online about stripping the socom elite for maintenance and it looks like the liner lock can’t be adjusted. Think it would be better for me to send it to the professionals.

So true bro, doesn’t even matter the company, unless it’s a full blown custom. Sucks that you don’t live in the states tho, hopefully someone will take care of the shipping for you, I would hope.
Good luck with everything, let us know how it works out.

Microtech have got back to me and requested that I film the blade play and their technicians will have a look and decide what to do. In no way was this post meant to bad mouth microtech. Can honestly say that microtech and Hinderer are my favourite knife makers. Never had any issues before this. Was hoping I could sort it out without sending it back to the states. Thanks for all the replies

As a Microtech fan living in France, I am very curious about how Microtech customer service is gonna handle this case, in case I need to send a knife to USA for repair or maintenance.

I once had a warhound UT which would sometimes not lock itself back after retracting. Fortunately, the store just took it back and refunded me entirely.

I will keep you posted brother

I have a Ultra Tech. Almost no blade play. On occasion it does not lock up. I live in the states but no way I would send it back.

As an aside, IMO the EKnives folks should have checked the knife over prior to shipping it to AUS. I’ve purchased from them previously and have considered them to be a good seller. Suggest you reach out to them.
