Real simple question here. Which one and why? I'll be using it in a very wet environment, EDC, and will be more often than not abusing it. Pricing for me is about the same @ $100 so that is not an issue but just which is better overall? Thanks guys for all your input.

Because of the wet environment, you might be best off with a Black T coated Mach 1, the blade shouldn't rust very easily, the G10 won't, and the Titanium liners won't.
However for general purpose utility I have to vote for the SOCOM, if nothing else because it has a double-beveled edge.

Hmm, I'd have a hard time picking one over the other. The thing I like best about the Emerson over the Microtech is the more secure handle shape, something Emerson is especially strong at. Microtech's overal fit-and-finish is better than just about any other production company out there except maybe William Henry and CRK, which is their top advantage, IMO. I'd go with the Emerson if you're worried about the handle getting slippery.

Socom Elites are gonna get reintroduced, might be the answer to your questions.

But for now, let's assume your choice is an old SOCOM and a EKI Mach 1

1. the EKI has the safest handle for slippery conditions.
2. neither of the knives have rusting liners
3. Chisel ground (EKI) VS double ground edge (MT)
4. Both really good steel, but I prefer MT steel.. dunno why.. I suppose their HT is a tad bit better.
5. Both blades can be had coated if rust is a concern.
6. Both blades have a very good reputation.
7. Neither locking liner on these will fail altought the steel SOCOM liners looks like it will last longer.
8. SOCOM is much more versatile and general utility/defense minded.
9. SOCOM's overall construction is stronger altough the emmerson will break your wrist too before it fails, I just feel the SOCOM is even tougher.
10. Mach 1 is probably a better defensive knife
11. Wave feature makes it a VERY fast opener and is a good showpiece too for the crowd :D

Kinda like a toss up for me, altough I favour the quality by Microtech. I'm not gonna use my pocketknife for defensive purposes, considering the odds of ever needing to. And should I, I am pretty sure my zytel spyderco endura can take care of the situation as well as any tactical folder

Greetz and take care, Bart.

Hey Bart, how's it goin'? :)

Please note that the Mach-1 does not have the wave feature!
Which i think is a pity as i like the knife otherwise.

Bart,

whilst we are being particular, the Emerson Mach 1 is not chisel-ground, it is double GROUND, but only SINGLE-BEVELED (you have to see one to really understand what I mean). I really don't care for it much personally.

Don't mean to be an anal retentive, but I figured i'd set the record straight :P

EKI - I love the designs, and I hate the edges that come with them!

Hi Jonas !

(exams... boring lonely but I'll get trough it.. How was your vacation to the baltic region ? )

I ment chisel grind as in chisel grind edge, kinda like a double ground knife coming back from heat-treath and your too lazy to sharpen it evenly on both sides, so you just sharpen one side.
If you see a EKI, in the picture you'll see a really wide sharpened edge on one side and on the backside you won't see an edge at all.

No wave? dang I really like the wave.. I thought they put 'm on all EKI models.

Greetz and take care, Bart.

Bart,
only the CQC7B Wave, Commander, Mini-Commander, SARK, PSARK, and SOCFK have Waves. The Mach 1, SPECWAR, Raven, Blackbird, CQC7, Tanto, and Mini-CQC7 do not have it.
