Good morning everyone! (MA here) so I just got the new 2015 red/black socom delta and there's enough play in it that I want a tool for the pivot. I cannot find any MT made ones and must go for after market. Would I need the 3.5mm domed or the 4.9mm non domed tori-pin bit?

You can check BladeHeadquarters' site. They carry them, but are often out of stock.

If you want to pay that for a special tool you'll use about twice in its lifetime, and that will probably go free of charge to whoever you end up selling that knife to down the road, go ahead. It's a decent knife, but Jeeeze.....

Were I you I would return the knife for adjustment at the factory. If it's brand new and there's blade play it's a defective knife. I would demand a new one.

Sorry, but posts like yours make me glad for the simplicity of Emersons, CRK's, etc.

^Never heard the horror stories of Microtech's repair/return department have you? I would NOT send it in.

No, I hadn't. I'm a Protech guy. Hmmmm....maybe he should just be/buy a tool. I hate the special tool concept.

Thanks, I'll check it out!

The bits I've seen are only about 20 bucks, not too bad. It's only slight movement and the bit would take care of it, other than that the knife is wonderful. I've been wanting a socom for a while and now that I have income to more than support the purchase of one, I would like to keep it. I have heard about this horror stories which is why I'm going the bit route, it also seems silly to send a knife in for such a simple adjustment!

Stupid me! For some unknown reason I though blade headquarters and BHQ were different things. I have checked their website and they have been out. I checked t out last night, thanks though!

You're right. That's not too bad. I thought they were asking more in the $100 range. Still a shame you got one with play though. Enjoy.... :)

Well the tools made by MT can be over 100 of they're a whole set/kit, but the individual bits are cheaper. Since I can't find any MT bits, I'll be getting an after market but which is cheaper, easier to find, and definitely work.

The absolute best place to go for Microtech tools is pvk.com. They have far, far more than any other retailer I've seen. If you don't see what you're looking for, just email or call them. Josh, the owner should be able to hook you up.

Good Luck!

Both of my CRK Sebenza's and my Mnandi all got loose pivot screws and blade play. The 2 Sebenza's were within the first week of ownership, just like the Op. Like so many others here, I had to put loctite in the CRK pivot screws. Simple.. It was not.

Everybody is different, but I like the look of Microtech's pivot screw heads and will gladly pay a little more for a special bit. Ditto with my Striders.. And no Loctite required.

I sent mine in 2 weeks ago. Called yesterday and said I would have it back early Sept.

Another member also stated he sent a knife in last week, and was quoted an 8 week turnaround time.

Horror Stories? Yes I have read them on there. They set the expectation, as long as they stick to that I am fine with it. I would rather not have to go through this, but I have other knives to hold me over in the meantime.

My Scom Delta takes a T30 bit for the pivot. I bought the handle bit from BladeHQ, because I thought I needed it to help center the blade, (along with the T30) but a very little bit of pivot only adjustment had it centered. Is yours like mine?

Compare the price of the tool to the long wait and possible "loss" risk of sending it in.
Check the feedback good bad and ugly on MT customer service going on right now before sending in anything to them, I recommend.

Yes the proprietary hardware thing is a pain, but if you think you want to keep the knife, or possibly get more, may as well get one, so
that you can do virtually risk free self-adjustments. I have hinderer and strider pivot tools, but after my experience sending in a MT for
a simple pocket clip fix (and my knife ends up missing) I'll probably never buy one again. Again, check the GB&U forum on the topic.

Best of luck.

I wish it was the t-30, but unfortunately it's the tri-pin pivot with the three holes. I know in BHQ it says the large, but on PVK, they have the listings in millimeters. So I guess I'll just call them and figure t out because this is a sweet knife. The detent is a little weak but it's better than the DOC I had which couldn't be opened.

Hmm, loose pivot screws that can be tightened and adjusted are hardly a problem. When you want to adjust a MT knife, it's a huge pain in the ass. At least Chris gives you the tool. I also doubt that there is an American made knife manufacturer that has been as consistently spot on in quality, with so many peer voted awards year after year to back it up.

Great knife Jill!

I hear you Rev, my Microtech pivot screws just don't back out repeatedly necessitating Loctite. The Loctite's a pain my ass on my Sebenza.. what can I say? :)

I guess everyone has their own opinion on what is easier.
