Microtech Socom Elite Thumb Stud loose....

Hello guys, I have a new Microtech Socom Elite that the thumb stud comes loose on, I can screw it back together but it just loosens back up. I tried several times to contact Microtech about the issue but get no response... Anyway I was thinking about loc-tite but am curious how to tighten them after using the loc-tite without marring them up, they are very smooth and I am sure pliers will leave marks. Has anyone else had this issue?

I had a similar issue on a Strider. I used blue loctite and just hand tightened the studs as hard as a I could, and they never loosened. I wouldn't use a tool, as the smooth surface on the thumb studs will get marred
 
If you decide to use a tool like pliers get the rubber jaw pads for it and be careful. But blue Loctite is definately the answer.

Here is the answer you were looking for. And what is it with knife ppl and sending things up for warranty when the answer is a dab of loctite?

The OP didnt actually say he was trying to contact Microtech for warranty services. Just concerning the issue which could include advice or information. If they would have told him to Blue loctite it , he might would of never posted here.

Well they certainly weren't going to tell him to get an eye of a newt and the feet of a crow and do a screw tightening incantation now were they?

Because you may be voiding the warranty on some knives as soon as you try to fix something yourself. I'd like to be able to call or write a company and have them fix something rather than trying to do it myself, screwing it up, and then finding out my warranty is voided.

Microtech isn't going to help out anyway because their customer service screws the pooch.
 
Use red loc tite, not blue. That is what MT uses on thumb studs at the factory. And a set of pliers with rubber jaw pads, or something rubber around the stud, should be fine. They don't have to be super tight, but you want them more than hand tight, and then the loc tite will keep them secure.
 
Ohh, never saw that one before. I thought they pressed them in all the way on all models. Thanks.
