Microtech SOCOM or M.O.D. CQD Mark II?

I seem to have the same problem with my MOD as well. Mine is a PS though.

I'm surprised. I have 3 CQC models, a large, a small, and an auto, and all of them are sharp and hold the edge.

I also has Mark II and it sharp same as Microtech. Most important difference is that MOD has thickest edge on the market, while MT has thinest edge on the market. So MT cuts better and eazier to sharpen, MOD require more effort then average, but it got very sharp as well.

MOD and MT on my opinion are both build with performance first and price second, so both are pretty good made and have perfect quality. MOD I think pay mor attention to CQC and less to cutting perfection while MT more focused on cutting. IMHO MOD is bit more comfortable in use in many respect, not only CQC - but one follows another. Side bumps on guard is very usefull as well as fishlike handle shape.

I am not CQC expert but I read really good review, which stated that Mark is perfect for hand to hand fight and it's geometry allows utilithe more technicks then any other knife - it was Vietnamize specnaz vet review not a martial artist, I trust him in this regard (here it is in Russian - http://playground.sun.com/~vasya/MOD-Mark-II.html#Leopard
). So if edge thickness not critical for this reasons. But I guess you need to be trained and experience fighter to utilize it's ability, for me it is just very comfortable in my hand.

So if you are looking for almost perfect cut and may appretiate it (may may not even notice) you should choose MT, if CQC important to you and you will be able to utilize Mark features you should get Mark I or II.

I wish I have MOD Mark II with MT edge on it...

Mark I and Mark II is two MOD knives I was talking about, I do not really may say too much about other models.

Thanks, Vassili.

Hi there, I have a MOD CQD Mark 2 as well, and I love it. It came razor sharp, and I've really put it through it's paces. It's still got a great edge. I haven't tried to sharpen it yet because I don't have anything good to sharpen on ( i should order a sharpmaker, i know). So far the Mark 2 has been everything I expected and more, it is extremely comfortable in the hand.

sad news: No SOCOM availble in Hong Kong, but mini SOCOM only!
good news: I buy mini SOCOM tonite.

I have Emerson SpecWar, Karambit and Commander; also Benchmade 910SBT and 710SBT. Up to now, SOCOM is the sharpest knife that i have ever own. Thanks all of you!

I have miniSocom and I carry it all the time since I bought it. I actually carried it together with MOD Mark II. I use miniSocom - becaise it relatively small knife with thin blade (and edge) for "surgical" use - cut out splinters, by cutting skin right on top of one and take it out without blood, etc. It take exceptional sharpness and has excellent tip for this kind of operations. But for other taskas I used MOD Mark II, until it was replaced by ZT-302.

Thanks, Vassili.

I've got the mini-socom and the cqd mark II, both are good knives... I tend to agree with some of what's been said. I'd say that if you want to cut stuff, the microtech should be fine, but if you need/want something that could double as a tool that might need to be used in ways that folders aren't necessarily meant for, then the MOD's probably the way to go, because it's of MUCH stouter build quality than the Mini-socom. My own experience is that my MOD has tigher lock up, but my Microtech is a MUCH better cutter due to blade thickness and grind.

SOCOM, no doubt. Had a MOD where the screws were loctited together from the factory (the threads were shot)

I have several MOD CQD Mark Is, pe and ps, and they are all sharp and hold an edge well. No problems encountered in sharpening.

Microtech...Microtech...Microtech. I have had three SOCOMs now, and I still have a SOCOM, a MINI Socom, and TWO (2) LCC's by Greg Lightfoot. You will not be disappointed.
