Just got my hands on a couple SOCOMs from 1997 that have handle screws on both sides, no scalloped out section by the thumb stud, and what looks like a steel blade stop pin inside. My other SOCOMs are from 1998. They only have handle screws on the rubber side, are scalloped out by the thumb stud, and the inside of the aluminum handle has a molded in hump for a blade stop. Also the steel in the older knives is bead blasted ATS-34 versus coated 154-CM in the newer ones. Anyone have info on this kind of stuff?

Oh, one more thing...I've actually used my bead-blasted SOCOM for going on five years now. I'm not really a collector, just a MT nut. Well, it's not exactly bead-blasted any more...More like dull gray with scuffs. I'm thinking of having it polished out (perhaps satin-ish). Any recommendations on where to send it and how much it would cost???

hey, how's it going? you said thumb screw so if its a manual just send to Vero Beach and let M.T. refinish it.if its a d/a auto there's gonna be a problem with mailing it (legalities). then, take it to a dealer and let them ship it. i dont think you'll have a problem, i met Tony Marfione at the blade show this past summer and i believe he runs a straight up outfit.....respects.
