Ok, so I am looking at buying a SOCOM but I was Interested about blade play. Is there any? I know on my ZT0200, there is no blade play and I was wondering if the SOCOM could replace the ZT0200 in performance, looks and durability. Also, if I could get some opinions on which knife you would choose, that would be helpful!

I once considered the socom and the zt200 too. I ended up with a cqc 12 and I couldn't be happier. You might want to consider which purpose you intend to use the new knife for. Is it for general utility or SD? You also might want to consider purchasing a spyderco military if you haven't considered already. I would also suggest the chinook flat grind too but it seems as if you are going for a tactical folder. You also can't go wrong with the emerson cqc series, either the cqc 8, 11, 12, or 13. Best of luck.

looks is a subjective thing what i like you might not.

i would get a SOCOM elite vs a std SOCOM they have better locks and are imho a little more heavy duty but they are a wee bit thicker.

as far as durability/performance a SOCOM elite would do most anything a folder needs to, as would a std SOCOM.

i have a mini-SOCOM elite and a SOCOM elite and a std SOCOM FWIW, all are good knives, i rarely carry mine anymore i prefer tip up carry and they dont come like that (mine arent anyway).

the CQC emersons are great knives too, and the spyderoc military is a classic, imho the lock on a SOCOM elite is better than a millies though, probably better than the liner lock EKIs too, now a CQC12 is a frame lock and is imho head and shoulders better than a zero tolerance, SOCOM or SOCOM elite, or millie, FWIW.

I can't comment on the ZT, as I don't have one yet. But I liked the SOCOM Elite so much that I bought a 2nd one and am contemplating a 3rd. I took one apart, and I was very impressed by the construction. The micro bar lock is very strong, and lockup is perfect w/ NO blade play. It has a pivot bushing similar to a sebbie. The MT is very well made, great f&f, very strong, and very sharp. I have heard that MT customer service is pretty terrible, but I don't forsee having to send one back.

The MT is a classic. I have a user grade from 98 that I carry on ocassion still. I also have an elite and have to say that to compare the two the elite is more robust and bigger so the grip for me is better. The MT is a classic though. All that being said I have been carrying a cheap CRKT Falcon pe and am very very happy with it. I sub a CQC14 with that one alot. The 14 hands down wins in the handle ergonomics category though so it does see a ton of pocket time. keepem sharp
