Any guesses on how long the current run of Microtech Socoms will last. I just picked up an auto and want to get the manual version.

It's hard to tell. Might be more coming. Hopefully colors. Might have to wait another 7 years. You never really know. It's worth hunting one down. It's one of the best thumb stud, modern made in USA folders I've ever used.

I have to agree I bought a Socom Elite folder having no clue how much I would grow to love the knife. I now have three of Socom folders ;). Like a lot of folks That collect Socom’s I would like to buy another, but we are holding out until Microtech throws out some OD green,Tan or camo models . Wouldn’t it be something if Microtech made a run of a color like blue, orange or even red :) I would buy buy and buy another LOL.

I picked up a 2018 Socom Elite Auto couple weeks back having several Stitch Autos already figured it would be a perfect match into my collection. I truly hate to say this, but in the Socom Elite I like the folders better than the auto. Normally if the folder design is cool, a auto is even cooler to me.

The 2018 Elite folders are so stinking smooth to open one tiny flick of your thumb and the blade fires open like it’s a auto knife it’s crazy. The thumb stub on the folder Elite seems more natural to open with my hands vs the auto button location on the 2018 Elite knives. The Stitch is a different story the auto button is perfect location very natural for me to reach and press. It’s just my personal preference as everyone has different size hands.

Blade shape you have tanto,SE and spear point. I like the tanto and SE best both are very nice shapes and cut well. The spear point seems to be just pure pointy sticker to me my least favorite, however I do like it enough that I bought one.

It's a small thing to most people probably, but I really like the quality of hardware on them. I took mine apart just to see what changes they made (there were many) and the quality of the hardware really blew me away. Reassembly did not require any tuning. Just tighten down all the screws. Pivot didn't get cranked down, but I did not have to back it off at all to get dead centered, drop shut action. Mine is ground very thing behind the edge for a knife this size as well. I'm very happy with it. When I bought it I thought I would only appreciate the aesthetics, but the construction is absolutely in line with the best folders in the world.

If they release a camo Signature Series manual I will be a very happy guy.

After looking at the blade shapes I went after a spearpoint aka signature series model. The tanto and SE shapes have a much wider and beefier blade, in an area near the point (terminology?). That to me means those 2 blade shapes are not as good at slicing, and def not as good at being stabby. Likely more weight also. Anyway, the quality and overbuilt design is very impressive, but I may sell my signature folder and go after an auto model, which is what most of my collection consists of.

What do you think of the socom vs the stitch? I have a stitch now and can't decide whether I want to trade it out for a socom. I like the stitch but the overall shape doesn't really fit with how I use my knife so it doesn't see as much pocket time as say my sebenza

I think the Socom S/E or Tanto has alittle more useful/utility shaped blade for everyday EDC. The Stitch and Socom spearpoint tend to lean alittle more defensive carry type blade shape wise to me.

That said I use my Stitch’s all the time at work for EDC type stuff so it gets the job done. The Spearpoint shape I also like too I ended up with all three blade shapes of 2018 models.

I had that exact Socom Detla S/E but in navy blue and a socom slite with cf inserts. Both were great knives in their own right and were great takes on a classic. Unfortunately both knives also had thinfs about them that I didn’t love. The Delta I couldn’t stand the serrated edge. The Elite I couldn’t stand the tip down.

I will say there were nice things about the aluminum framed Elite but the Delta really impressed me. A sub framelock turns a g10 knife into truly something special imho especially when there are minimal liners.

It's really hard to say with Microtech, because even thought they can hardly keep the Socom in stock right now, they might just decide to do something different for a few years. No way to really say for sure.

Try asking them on instagram.
