Is the troodon durable enough for a hard use knife, edc and fire dept ? Ive been using my BM 943 without any problems. Im thinking about the troodon but Im concerned about the durability of an OTF for hard generel utility use. Opinions appreciated.

the blade on the troodon is considerably thinner than i'd expect for "hard use." but then again, i'm used to strider-thickness ;).

i've heard problems with OTF actions combined with dirt/dust/sand, so that may be a problem depending on your environment. microtech customer service has recieved some poor reviews as well (see the good/bad/ugly forums).

that said, it's a FUN knife to play with. i greatly enjoyed mine when i had it, strictly for the novelty/coolness factor.

hope you find what you want!

I carry a Microtech Ultratech, and while it isnt in my turnout/bunker gear it has seen a few major ragers since I got it last month, but then I have babied it more then any other knife I have owned. Actually, I doubt it will ever find its way into my turnouts because It will get wet/rust issues if I forget. Cool knives, appear tough.expensive yes, but I would worry more about hurting a Strider at twice the cost of a Troodon. Striders dont appear to me to be EDC friendly, They are huge, massive chunks of steel. More Mall ninja and status knives to me. The Troodon is perfect EDC with great lines, no pocket eating corners or edges.
I save the tough work mostly to benchmade and spyderco knives. If I mess them up I can always justify the expense of getting it fixed and or buying a new one. I always have at least one multitool in my bellows pocket. (I have a cool one from E-One ;) )

Having said all this, my next knife will be a troodon. Go for it. Make sure your White Helmets authorize you to EDC it. Welcome to the forums Brother.

343, Never Forget.

Thank for the reply guys. FireInvestigator, I dont plan on using the MT in my turnouts either, Ive got a spyderco beater for that, I plan carrying it my uni pants . It will be used around the firehouse, on ems runs, and on tech rescue type ops. Im saving up to buy it now, but it still might be a while. If you end up with the Troodon before me Id love to hear what you think. I edc a BM 943 right now but I will probably switch over to the Troodon. I read you story over on the holics forum and Ive been in the exact same situation where I chickened out from trying to pry a door latch with my 943, It makes me wonder how our knives would have done. Thanks again, lookin forward to swappin stories.
