Microtech Ultratech UMS retracting issue

Hello my fellow BF brothers and sisters. I have a question for someone more knowledgeable than myself. I have an older UMS that I acquired second hand which was failing to fire and retract. Turns out, the previous owner oiled the hell out of it. I filled it several times with Zippo lighter fluid, drained it and blew it out with compressed air. Immediately after the treatment, it fired and retracted flawlessly. After sitting for a day, it will now fire with authority, but it is almost impossible to retract. The resistance on the firing switch, to retract...not to fire, is extreme. Has anyone ever encountered this before? Could it be that the upper sears were adversely affected during the lighter fluid bath? I haven't disassembled as of yet, but that is my next step. I'm hoping a pinpoint drop of oil on the sears may clear it up. Just thought I'd pop in here before taking it apart to see if anyone could offer any wisdom. Thanks in advance for the help. Happy Holidays to all!

Maybe some of the old gummy oil was not fully flushed from the knife. Seems like some re-hardened after the light fluid evaporated.

Good idea. Didn't even think of that. Another Zippo flush beats disassembly in my book. Hopefully, that clears it up. Thank you.

I'd go with.3-4 flushes..........Lighter fluid is cheap enough.......One.of those occasions where more would be best 😉

After you flush it again let it dry fully, blow it out again, then flood it with rem oil. Let it drain then work it a lot. Wipe any excess off the blade - it’ll be leaking a few days.

Thank you. I was thinking rem oil. But I was going to target the sears. I like your idea better. Let it work through and coat everything. I think the oil the previous owner used was more like standard household oil. I’ll update results after. Thanks again. Merry Christmas.

I did flush it 3x. Then blew it out. It was perfect immediately after. It was later that I’d started acting up. To your point though, I don’t know for sure what the last guy did. So, the more flushes, the better. Merry Christmas.
