Some guys are telling me that Microtechs are of higher quality than Benchmade. The two knives I compared are the SOCOM mini elite, and the Benchmade 9050. What do you think?

Microtech is a specialty company. They are primarily focussed on autos, and produce high-tech showpieces. Benchmade is a mass-market company, and produces a tremendous variety of manual and auto knives, with innovative and reliable mechanisms.

Would you rather have a Ford or a Ferrari? Which would you use more? Which would be easier and cheaper to maintain?

Hummmm but the Benchmade 9050 retails for more. So is that considered the Ferrari?

Esav in generally correct in his description of BM and Microtech. MT is a smaller company and a higher percentage of their production is aimed at high-end auto showpieces. Despite that specialty tendency, BM does produce a fair amount of using knives that are on par with most higher end commercial cutlery. The biggest difference between MT and BM is that Benchmade is much larger company and much more of their production aimed at more of a mass market. That said, BM had high end pieces and a few limited production specialty pieces. All that said, I don't think that Microtech's working pieces are noticeably better than BM's. Furthermore, since so much of BM's production are Axis lock pieces, I don't think they really compare to MT's liner locks or plunger lock autos.

Im talking about a Microtech mini SOCOM Elite which isnt a very high end knife compared to Microtechs other knives, and Benchmades 9050 whuch I think is very nice. So would yall compare the 9050 to a Hummer and the mini SOCOM to a Ferrari?

Microtech is known for their precise engineering, attention to detail and overal quality. While Benchmade does a good job in all of those areas, they just aren't quite as good at them as Microtech. Of the two knives, the Microtech would most likely be of higher quality. It would be my pick of those two knives.

I personally would say Benchmade is behind MT also, not exactly the same general ideas in "production"

also the mini elite is anot a high end knife considering MT's offerings at this time :D
