Sent the following to MicroTech....what should I expect to hear back???

Dear Warranty person,

I bought an LCC about 3 1/2 years ago, crediting it with opening the door to "higher end" knives. Since its purchase I've attended Blade/Atlanta 3 times and spent way more than the LCC's cost on several pieces. Approximately 6 mos. after I bought the LCC I found that it had developed sideplay in the pivot (maybe it was just too much fun to open and close!) and then I discovered that apparently it is factory policy to "loctite" the pivot screw, thereby pretty much negating any field service unless heat is applied to the pivot in some manner. Since I chose not to take the chance of damaging the finish of the piece it found itself set aside as I enjoyed my newer acquisitions. The time has come to deal with the problem. Other than the initial postage for shipping the piece to you and based on what I've told you, could you give me an idea of what, if any, charges I might incur and, if any, why? I also need the clip screws as I've misplaced them and would like the blade sharpened (partially sererrated). Naturally I expect to incur a reasonable charge for these items. Also what sort of turnaround time might I expect?

Thank you for your time!

I remember hearing less than kind remarks about MT service. Good luck.

Dear Warranty person,

That cracks me up :D

Anyway, I would be surprised and disappointed if you were held responsible for the play.

The loctite problem is easily solved--just use a small soldering iron (the 30/40 watt type) and apply it to the pivot screw. It'll loosen right up. As far as MT's warranty service--you will have to exercise a bit of patience--it'll get done, but it will be slow.

Good news!.....

Just received this from Mr. Hall Solomon, MT's new CS Mgr.:

Larry, Hello, We do put a small amount of loctite on the screws to keep them from coming loose, but you should not have to heat it up to loosen it. Call Melody, 772-569-3058 and she will give you a repair number (RA#) to send the knife back to the factory. The cost to repair your knife will be $10.00. This covers the return postage and handling. Send it in and we will repair and replace what it needs to be brand new again. Hall Solomon, Microtech

I just got of the phone with Melody. Got my RA# and I'm ready to roll in tomorrow's Brown! :-)

I see where I went astray. Of course someone named Hall SOLOMON would be wise enough to understand all those big words. :)
