Microtek fan converts to CRK

For three years I collected Microtek automatic knives. After spending probably over 1500 dollars and having two of these knives malfunction I wanted so bad to buy a Chris Reeve Sebenza as a daily carry but my wife said I had spent enough on "collecting" knives for now.

Well that changed today. FedEx delivered overnight a Lg Sebenza with graphic on it. Such a simple and elegantly made knife. I like that. I was always told with my Benchmade NOT to disassemble it. I didn't even want to deal with taking apart my OTF Microtek. Well made knife.

Is there anything you owners recommend me NOT do with the handling of the knive? What I mean is do I have to treat the polished/anodized knife handle with special care? Is it safe to carry it in pocket without the leather sheath or would that wear the graphic off more quickly? I am probably being paranoid, but that is the way it is with a new tool.

Xeno,Welcome to the Sebenza family!! you made a GREAT choice! I've been told Windex to keep the graphics clean,as far as scratching..sooner or later it'll happen!! that is..if you really use it !! As far as the color goes..can't help ya there mine are both wood.. good luck!!

Just remember, once you go CRK you never go back. So when do plan on buying a small Sebbie and an Mnandi?? ;) ;)

I know exactly what you mean, Xeno. I had a similar addiction to Spydies, but all that has changed lately due to QC issues and other reasons....first the linerlock on my Military developed play and had to be repaired TWICE, then the severe blade play on a NIB ParaMilitary. :grumpy:

Last week, I sold just about all my Spyders and bought my first CRK, a Large Regular Sebbie. :D I'm still kicking myself, asking why the heck I waited so long to buy a Sebenza!! There isn't ANYTHING about it that I can find a flaw with or would want to improve/modify on the Sebbie.

IMHO, this knife is perfect!

Now, I have absolutely no 'passion' or urge to buy any more knives....unless they come in a little white box with a silver and blue sticker that says ' Chris Reeve Knives'. :D  :D

Welcome Xeno,

I carry a small unique graphic Seb everyday. It has yet to loose any coloring. My wife also carries one and uses it hard. Minor scratches on the handle but still looking sharp with no loss of color. Niether of us use the leather slip sheath.

Worse case scenario...you send it back to the CR factory for a refurbish job. Good as new! ;)

Congrats, enjoy, and use your new Sebenza. Like Microtech's(Microtek?) you will want more.

Hi Xeno - Windex works great to clean the anodized scales with. Oils, dirt, etc makes the anodizing seem dull. I have a unique graphic and use it as I would any other knife. They can be refurbed by the CRK shop.

I owned three, two auto folders and one out the front auto. Living in Arizona it's legal to carry any of them. Two of the autos after one year stopped working and locked up. I had always wanted a KISS (keep is simple stupid) knife. I remember looking in the year 2000 for a Reeve blade but couldn't see the light.

What is the deal with titanium getting scratched so easy? No way to buff those out with some yellowstone compound and a buffing wheel mounted to a Foredom hand piece?

Gees what took ya so long to join the club. As far as care goes i just give my sebbie a nice wash every now and again, and i keep nothing else in my left front pocket other than my sebenza. I think a 330.00 knife deserves its own real estate. Good luck and enjoy. :)

I have expensive taste and my wife doesn't support the "need" for my having five or more expensive knives. Since I have known her I have had 3 Microtechs, 1 SOG, 1 Almar, 1 Puma, 2 Benchmades and now the most expensive item of all; the graphical designed large regular Sebenza. But I did invest some more money into it yesterday to protect it;a Vess sheath.

People who complained about Sebenza price don't realize you get a great knife for the money and then save even more by not wanting to go and buy a bunch of lesser knives. You wind up seeing a knife and thinking "is this better than my Sebenza?" and it's usually, not quite!

You're absolutely correct, Boink!! I used to think the same thing, that the Sebbie was too overpriced, but after I took the plunge and bought one.....I have seen the light! It truly is a work of art that can handle anything that you throw at it and still function and work as great as it did when it was NIB.

No other folder that I have owned, or thought about owning, could compare with this CRK. I used to be addicted to Spyders, but now the Sebenza is all that I carry.

I haven't had my graphic large sebenza even three days now and yet I just ordered another Chris Reeve knife; Ironwood Mnundi for those light carry days.
Damn and I thought I was done spending tons of money on knives. Didn't I learn my lesson from the MT's I bought? Sad thing is I kinda snuck this one. I haven't told my wife yet. Her eyes popped out when I told her my CRK folder was over $400 bucks. Any couches out there I can borrow? Mine is too lumpy.

I sold a L sebbie a while ago, missed it so much I got another one just today, also got a olive drab project one, might as well give my paychecks to CRK.

Yes I can relate to the paycheck being gone. The knives are not cheap but we are paying for what we consider a well made and inspected knife. At least I am. I had planned on picking up a William Henry Damascus blade until talking with the sales representative. When I asked him if any of his blades have wobble at the pivot he commented apprehensively, "Yes some do have blade wobble, but you can have the dealer of our knives check that before buying one." That was all it took for me to move to the CRK Mnundi. I realized that we are paying for the quality control with his knives - I am. I respect a company that produces a product with tolerances equal in almost all the knives they ship out. Just that quality alone is enough for me to be a Reeve fan and probably many more of you.
