I have some friends who are looking to purchase a microwave oven for "lefties" (ie. the door hinges on the right side of the unit) Anyone know if something like that is available?

Not sure... hmm , never wondered lol.
I'm a leftie , my Dad and Bro are too , all three of us have pretty much adapted to a right handed world to the point that I rarely think about it anymore , even when using my firearms. I've just gotten used to it , heck I'm so used to having my knife in my right pocket I think it would freak me out to get a ambidextrous clip and put it in my left , lol.
I did a search on them and didnt find anything but mentions of them.

Why not just get a microwave with an oven style door? Ya know, one that has a handle at the top and opens outward and down.

Why in the world do they want a lefty microwave oven? Does it have to do with the layout of the kitchen?

I'm also a "lefty", but have somewhat adapted to this right-hand World. If your friends can't/won't adapt, just tell 'em to put a "standard" microvave upside-down...That way the door will open "correctly" for 'em.:D.:D.

ROFLOL! Sorry about that - my fault. :o Yes, it has to do with the layout of the custom cabinets in their kitchen (My friends are not "lefties". Not that there's anything wrong with that, Jerry! ;) )

I don't think I have EVER seen a microwave oven in North America that has the door hinged on the right, or at the top or bottom.

I told them not to be such cheapskates - just spend another $30k and have the kitchen built to suit the microwave! :D

my old amana hinges on the bottom. it is very handy when the thing you are trying to remove from the microwave is hotter than you think:o

1.5k to boot (yeh for "they don't make them like that anymore"):grumpy:

Yea, those old Amana "Radar Ranges" were real workhorses. We had one. Until my friends mentioned this to me, I never even thought about it - because all kinds of appliances are now designed so you can switch the door to either side.

Good timing on this post. My wife and I are in the market for a new microwave and a 'lefty' would actually fit our kitchen style better. I may just look for an oven-style door.

Just mount it upside down.:p ...

I thought of that and figured that was just silly....and then I thought some more and...if there's a way of turning just the control panel upside down in the housing (and you don't need the 'revolving platter') that might work, no?

I admit I never thought of this being a problem until my friends asked me about it. I'm assuming they're built "left to right" because that's how our eyes scan?

I don't think it's nessesarily the way we scan naturally. We probably just pick it up from reading.

Yes, that's what I was implying. (Unless, of course, you learn to read right to left, or top to bottom! ;) )
