Today, mid-cooking, my microwave went black. It was manufactured in 2013 (GE Profile Series PEM31SM4SS), 1.1 cu. ft. and hangs under a kitchen cabinet. (My first one of this type lasted 26-27 years, so they don't make them like they use to? (see edit--it came back on!)
I have a 1960's kitchen with limited space-- both countertop and floor area--and I'm needing advice on getting a new microwave. I'm happy with the size and shape of the microwave and the way it operated; I like the fact that this one hung under the cabinet and left the space free underneath, and I'm reluctant to replace it with another one of the same brand/model if it will only last 3 years.
I'm thinking that my options are countertop or put one on a cart--both would eat up a lot of room.
Any suggestions on a brand that won't die in 3 years? or is that the new normal?
I thought about trying to get this repaired, and I'm not sure it would be worth the time/expense to uninstall it and have it repaired (if possible) given that it is already 3-4 years old.
Thoughts? Suggestions?
ETA: I unplugged it for 2-3 hours, and it started working again. I'm wondering if it overheated and this was a safety feature, an automatic shut-off. Didn't see this in the manual, and I see it mentioned online on several sites for other microwaves. Anyway, I'm still interested in people's ideas on replacement since I don't know how long it will last.
