Here's a fairly recent pic of users or knives earmarked as users. There've been a few additions and a few more scuffs on some of the blades, but nothing has been added in the "mid-range" I'm posting about here (center column of the photo). Sadly, Tyrkon still hasn't sent me a CG SFNO to try out at this point.

I'm really beginning to get a new appreciation for some of these middle-of-the-road knives like the SH-E, SFNO, ASH1, SJTAC, and BATAC. Makes me wish I'd grabbed a HR at the time. Also makes me wonder about the NO-E and the BA-E a bit more.

They really are sturdy blades that, while not the greatest at all tasks, perform well at so many different duties. I'm usually a big chopper and small utility kind of guy, but in creating a few do-it-all-kits and experimenting with knives in the 5" to 8" range, I've begun to like them more and more.

Essentially, what I need is a new run of CG SFNOs and a couple more Ergo models to play with. I know of at least one person that would agree with me on the first count.
:D

Lovely collection, Guyon! By all means, scoop up a Hell Razor if you get the opportunity. I love all my knives, but the "beloved" Hell Razor really can about do it all...until the ASH comes along, maybe! :D

A girl needs a knife...

I have always loved mid sized knives but now I am thinking about the one larger and one small combo.

Like an FFBM and an LMS for example.

Life's tough choices.

I'm not a mid range fan but I do like the SHSH and this one:thumbup:

Yeah, I really need to work the old school SJ angle.

The SHSH is almost too big to go into that category. It would probably go over in the bigger group along with the MOASH just because of size.

Just feels like more of a chopper than a mid-utility blade to me.

nice pic!

i loved the ergos, until i got a daba. then the bae seemed too much handle for the blade length.

same with the noe, loved it until i got an sfno (which i have subsequently parted with, but have another inbound).

i think my hands ultimately were too small for the ergos.

i just reaquired a hell razor, glad to have that one back in my trof.

for the mid size blades, the sf handle seems to fit me best. i havent taken my batacs out yet, but the feel pretty good too.

I've used an ASH-1, BATAC, handled a SFNO and ABALE. All are superb knives. I was very impressed with the ASH-1, and look forward to the CG and LE versions. I've never gotten the opportunity to handle a Hellrazor, but I now have one inbound. So far, I think my favorite is the ABALE. I'd love to find another ABA or BAIII.

Nice knives bro!

As far as "One knife does it all" ---- everyone knows the Mojo is the ultimate do-it-all blade ------IF you want to do it all AND look good doing it  :D

Actually, I love the SH-e and the Hell Razors for that category

The old SJ's are AWESOME, if you expect zero chopping.

Man, Guyon, you have some nice knives. When I look at that image, the knife that really jumps out at me (besides the SHBM) is the ASH1. That is one good looking knife. I'm beyond excited that it is the current production run, and that I am able to afford a few of them. Having never held one, but based on my experience with other Busses, it looks to be the ultimate all-around knife. I can't wait for the day my first arrives!

I'm personally not overly crazy about the looks of the SFNO, but I've never held or used one. Based on the very high opinions about the knife from those who have used them, I'd really like to pick one (or three) of those up. I seriously doubt anyone would complain if the SFNO, or some new iteration of the Natural Outlaw line were the next run after the ASH-1.

My big knife for years was a John Ek M-5, 6.5" blade, trouble was, it's 440C, either sharp or a strong edge, but not both.

In my search for the 'one' Busse, I've cleared trails with a GW & AD (up to about 3") with the help of a baton. Done the same with a LrMs, gained about an inch. The ABA does better in this regard for me.

I've hammered tent stakes with a SHSJ, pounded it through some pretty thick limbs, it will chop, not stellar, better than teeth, cooler than a Kabar ;).

the SH-E is close to the ultimate one knife solution, but anything over 4" rides in my gear, not on my belt. I use what I've got. Colorado has a 3.5" blade limit. So I'm always testing the limits of my EDC's.

My primary users, need to update my pics.

Got some clean up to do today, those damn 75 mile an hour winds, mess stuff up a bit. Took care of my leaf pile though ! :D

In reguard to your post Guyon, I guess these are also all Mid-range , right? I would think your MOASH and SHBM would be on the upper range...
Awesome infi acculumation

I am getting a 2nd BIBB and planned on using it for my main chopper/camp blade. . With all the experience around here what do you folks think would be a better all around user. the BIBB or SHe. I need to pick one as my new abuser. any suggestions??

TONY G I need that SJ LE !!!

where do you get those tapered pins?
thanks vern

vern, welcome. I think you're talking about the tube fasteners. Those are actually pieces of metal tubing that have been flared on each end just inside the micarta or G-10 scales.

I really like the NO-E. It chops, slices and dices, and carries well. full-height grind.

What's not to like?
