I know there are smaller Alox SAKs that have scissors, but is there some reason why there isn't a larger Alox model with 'em? I mean, besides the fact that they just didn't put one into production - some actual limitation that prevents them from producing one?

There is not a structural reason for this, AFAIK. I've owned a few custom Farmers with scissors added, and it makes the knife a bit thicker, sure, but they work just fine. I'm not sure why Victorinox has been reticent on this front, as I would venture to guess that it's one of the most sought-after and requested mods to the alox line.

I had scibeer add scissors to my Farmer. It's been my edc for a couple of years, and is my favorite knife whether folder or fixed. (The mod was not nearly as expensive as you might think.)

Would one say it was practically, scott free? :D

Bill (Scibeer) does a fantastic job of adding the scissors to the Alox range but the parts aren't standard, if anything this makes the fact he's got this to work even more outstanding. AFAIK there never was a 93mm alox with scissors that wasn't a mod.

Things get a little easier when you go down to the 84mm size. Vic did in fact do a 84mm alox with scissors called the Voyageur, now very sought after though. http://www.smartknives.com/Victorinox-Knives/Victorinox-Voyageur.htm

Or you can add scissors (if you can find any) to a Cadet. This is a lot easier than Scibeers mods as the spring and scissors don't need worked on to fit in the 84mm frame. Like this:

The only reason this isn't still possible is that Vic have stopped making (and have no plan to start again) 84mm scissors.

How does one get in touch with Scriber? Having no idea how much something like this would cost, what's the price range of a tool mod on a SAK?

The prices vary widely depending on the mod. Some require only one donor knife for parts. Some may require three or four. Besides the actual tool or tools that you want to add, there are also liners/dividers. It really all depends on the project.

The other option is an origional Voyageur, sold primarily in Europe, (maybe Canada as well), but not in the US. Long ago discontinued. If you can find one, they typically sell in the $200-$300 range.

84 mm scissors are getting scarce as virgins in my home town.

I wish I had a bucket full of them (the scissors).
