Does your Woodsman glow when Orcs are near?

Those are some tasty looking edibles Brian. I am sure the Elves would approve.

Lovely indeed! Nourishing, wholesome, Tuscany...come to mind:D Why are the lock in the shot out of curiosity?

Beautiful!

Thank you!

I don't know yet Phil, but I hope so! :D Thank you, it's a mix of things gathered and bought. There are other things I want for that shot, or series of shots but, but some I haven't found yet, and some aren't in season yet. So I have been playing with what all I can find to test colors, textures and placement. Sort of like, prototype photos...

That second pic is just awesome! Cheers!

Thanks man! That is one I have played with a lot so I am getting close to what I want now. The first shot was an impromptu setting from playing with ideas for farmer Maggot's kitchen after coming back from the farmer's market today. I had an idea for a recipe for the mighty dish of mushrooms and bacon I am looking forward to playing with :)

Thank you! Those are there because the inspiration for this section of the series comes from King Thranduil's wine cellar where Bilbo stole the keys from the guard to rescue the dwarves. I played with the locks just to see how it felt...

These are great shots. I love the different textures. The bottom picture is my favorite between the soft cheese on the blade, the bread, the wooden cutting board, the texture and blue in the table cloth, the cracked nuts, up to the cup, then on to the fruit with the watermelon popping out, and damn.... That honey looks awesome.

Brian, I was wondering when you would get around to taking a decent pic or two. :D

Just kidding of course. Very cool shots as usual!

It's a long story, and one I really don't feel comfortable typing out on the internet, but the series of books that are The Hobbit and The Lord of The Rings trilogy played a very critical role in me making it through the very dark times and madness that was the last years of my childhood, with my sense of right and wrong, honor, and decency intact. At times it served as am anchor, and at others a compass. There were also a lot of parallels. So it has a key place in my life in general. I am very grateful for the timing with which I found the stories in a library one snowy winter in Dallas. Looking back on it all feel a need to create some sort of tribute to that.

Thank you. It is Wensleydale with Blueberries. http://somerdale.com.au/english-cheese-in-australia/wensleydale-blueberries.aspx

I have been researching, collecting, and locating sources for various things for this project for a few years now. I haven't has as much to work with money wise after the Michigan screw up as I would have liked so it is going much slower than I hoped...

Lol, I would have suspected as much. But who knows, there may be some shots over times that you like other things better about :)

The overall project is pretty complex. It involves various knife makers I have come to know and admire over the years, including Paul doing a Legolas belt knife for me. Yet your knife designs are all so purpose driven for various tasks in cutting uses, and with all of your artistic creativity they are also so diverse in shape, color, and texture that I have realized I can also do an entire series of shots from the whole story using nothing but Fiddleback knives. I think it would make a cool coffee table book for the Fiddleback Forge shop, but that may just be me and my thinking. Though I would likely have to borrow a few knives from others here and there to do it right.

Those are some fine pics. Powernoodle Approved.

Thanks man :)

Thank you Peter. I am still working my way up to the settings for the shots from Lord Elrond's table, King Thranduil's thrown room, King Theoden's setting at the feast at the Golden Hall of Meduseld , Lord Denethor's table in the throne room at Minas Tirith, and King Aragorn's setting at the feast after the battle in Mordor. I would really like for those pieces to be more ornate than anything I have on hand as of yet. I will have to talk to Andy and Paul about borrowing some pieces for shoots when I have all else in the settings ready to go...still collecting plates, utensils, and vessels for those as well. It is a very ambitious project, and sometimes I wonder if it is too ambitious. But it is one from the heart and I am driven to do it, and do it as best as I can manage...

A series of still life portraits, eh? Excellent compositions sir.

Yes, exactly. To me there was ever an underlying theme of food preparation in various settings throughout the entire series of the story, from the beginning of The Hobbit till the end of The Return of The King. Food prep requires cutlery, growing up hunting with my father staring at a very early age, gardening and farming with my grandparents at a young age too. Then I got into art and photography when I was very young thanks to Ben Hampton who was the head artist at the agency where my father was operations manager when I was little. Art was my favorite subject in school, and I took art classes outside of school. I was just getting into photography when my father was teaching me to live off the land here and in south Florida. Then I did trapping and fishing commercially with my older brother in my teens. I was a latch-key kid at age 8 with both parents working, and I got into cooking because sandwiches got old fast for me. So I love to cook, and have worked as a prep cook in several restaurants here in the south. Thus my love affair with with cutlery began at age six with the first hunting knife my father gave me, and was a constant companion through all of the other activities I did and enjoyed, and has just never diminished. My love affair with photography began shortly after. So this is actually a project I have considered doing for over thirty years and just never had the means to act on it. Now I do, so I am driven to do so.

These are great shots. I love the different textures. The bottom picture is my favorite between the soft cheese on the blade, the bread, the wooden cutting board, the texture and blue in the table cloth, the cracked nuts, up to the cup, then on to the fruit with the watermelon popping out, and damn.... Thank you. I have had more time to work on that one and study it on a big screen. I have only just begun to get serious with the test shots from Bilbo's kitchen and Farmer Maggot's kitchen. I clearly need to buy more cloth for table coverings and find more tables that suit me for the background.

These photos are Hobbit approved.

Thank you Justen :)

Cool pics, I especially like the bottom picture

Thank you, me too. I am definitely getting closer to what I want with that one.

Great pics Brian!

Thank you Nathan, I thought you might get into this series of photos :)

Fantastic. I especially like the second pic!

Thank you Luca! So far that is my favorite shot in the evolution of that scene as well.

Well...I am have spent the last several years trying to improve my photography game, it only stood to reason I would eventually come up with a cool shot or two :)

Thank you Sergio!
