Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie

Today we were out for a 4.1 mile walk in Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie, near Elwood Illinois. This is located on the old Joliet Arsenal property south of Joliet, and is an in process restoration of prairie habitat, with some interesting surprises along the way.

Hornet or bees nest, I didn`t get close enough to see!

Here are the surprises, the old ammo storage bunkers scattered all over the place.

That's a neat area. Were you able to go inside the bunkers? Not sure if that one shot was inside or not.

Yes, there are supposed to be 5 bunkers you can go in, but we only found the one.
