Yesterday was my birthday...but with the recent loss of a family member the mood just wasn't right for an actual celebration. So when Lisa got in last night I headed to the Bluff View Art District and Rembrandt's Coffee House. I was in the mood for a good cup of coffee and some apple strudel. I just wanted to have a quiet celebration on my own for the amazing feat of having survived the last 45 years, and to spend a little quiet time looking back and reflect on some lessons learned. I only had about an hour there before Rembrandt's closed...technically they close at 11:30 but if you are already there eating they don't tend to run you off too quickly. About 11:45 or so I refilled my cup and not being ready to go home just yet I wandered around for a while playing with low-lighting shots in the art district and along the river walk. Some of them turned out pretty cool I think. These are all 13 to 15 second exposures.

Tony's Pastaria & Trattoria right before "lights out". This place has great food at great prices. I love their fettucini with wild mushroom and tomato sauce, and Lisa and I can both eat there for less than thirty bucks tip and all.

Dr. Pitera's house above the Bluff View Bakery. I love the smell of the bread baking at night.

The Back Inn Cafe, I really love their Sirloin and Prawn, and while the frog legs are a bit tough they have an awesome flavor. It's funny...if I go there alone it costs me about $30.00 for appetizer, meal, a drink, and tip... if I take Lisa it somehow jumps to about $90.00...we don't do that but about once a year.

And of course my little friend :)

Nice Pics! Thanks for taking us along for the ride. I always enjoy spending some time in other peoples shoes and it seems like you had an enjoyable night in a place that you really like calling home. I'm sorry to hear about your loss, it's good to take some time for yourself to sort things out.

Happy belated Birthday, mistwalker.

In a couple of your recent posts, you mentioned that Lisa was distracted, suggesting that there was a problem. I'm sorry to hear of your loss.

Doc

Happy birthday Mistwalker, and thanks for taking us along with you! The Art District looks pleasant and I'd really like to take a walk along the Tennessee river myself.

I'm also sorry to hear about your loss, you have my sympathy.

Happy B-day!! Thanks for the pics. I love to see other's travels, especially when life hasn't allowed me much time for travels for a long while.

Thanks guys, glad you enjoyed the photos.

Yeah Doc, we had planned on celebrating the 4th at Lisa's grandfather's house this year. Saturday on my way back from a photo-shoot I got a call from my mother-in-law telling me that Fred had just died walking across his yard to a neighbor's house. Apparently his heart failed and he collapsed. We had just celebrated his 91st birthday back in May. So...on Tuesday at the Memorial Cemetery here to the sound of a 21 gun salute and taps we paid our last respects and said our final farewells to Fred. The man had a good life. He came home from WWII in one piece having been blown out of two tanks, for his heroic actions he was awarded, among other things, a bronze star, a silver star, and two purple hearts. He started a restaurant, raised a family, and he lived a long productive life, and passed away doing something he loved in his own yard. That said, he is still sorely missed.

Alayna will turn five tomorrow....but we are putting her celebration off a week. I am not looking forward to her looking for her paw paw when we go back up on the mountain, and her realization that he really is gone. This is her first experience with mortality.

Sorry for your loss.. Yeah, some kids take it different then others. My kids have experienced loss at that age and all seem to cope, even when my wife's cousin and his two girls 3 and 5 yrs old were killed hitting a parked semi, for sure the baby's are dancing with Jesus. Its perception..

My youngest will be 3 tomorrow also..

Regards,

Rob

Thanks Rob. Man, that is such a sad story. I'm very sorry to hear that.

Congrats! What is it about the cold months that leads to summer babies :)

Yeah, Alayna is doing well with it now...she was really sad when I came back in after Lisa had told her. It broke my heart when she looked up at me with those normally sparkling eyes so sad and quietly said "my paw paw is dead" and then just sat silent thinking about it. Ever since she has been able to she has made her way up the two flights of steps that lead "his part of the house", a free standing apartment that adjoins the main house. Lately she has run up those steps wide open to go find her paw paw as soon as we got there. I'm pretty sure she will do that next time just out of habit...and hearts will break yet again.

Thanks Rocky, yeah I can hide in my camera and get lost when I need to

Condolences on your loss.

Thanks man. At this point I have seen so much death it seldom phases me, especially when it comes as what I perceive as a "natural" occurrence of life. I am mainly sad for my wife and daughter, and more so for Alayna....they were just getting really close. I can shut my eyes and still see her sitting in his lap and both of their eyes all lit up and big grins on their faces...I can still hear the laughter. I will miss that.

My condolences again, Mist.

Happy Birthday, too, although I understand that it may not be the happiest time, under the circumstances.

And, last but not least, good pics, as usual.

Well, that sure sucks to have happen near a birthday :(

Happy belated birthday, anyway. With the amount of time I am hungry at night I should be getting food at night.. but I need to work at 5 in the morning.

I wish you a HAPPY BIRTHDAY Mistwalker!!! I'm so sorry to hear about your loss, I know celebrating can be tough during those times. I loved the pics of some of your favorite places. Again, happy birthday brother!

Thanks guys, I'm glad you enjoyed the pictures, and i appreciate the moral support.

Yeah, Thurs., Fri., and Sat. are my off days (daddy days) for now because of Lisa pulling 12 hour shifts on those three days. That will change this fall when Alayna starts school.

Thanks man, I walked on out the river walk a ways but didn't get any more pics I liked because the rains started up again. We need the rain so I'm not complaining.

Nice pictures, thanks for posting them! I have had more than my share of personal loss this past year, I know how that feels, and I'm sorry for your loss.

On a lighter note, Happy Birthday to ya!
