I'm looking to add to the folder collection but there are numerous options I am looking for a folder or folders that are under 120 but over $30, the blade needs to be a minimum of 3 inches and a linerlock is acceptable but I would prefer at least a framelock design wise. I am looking for something somewhat tactical looking along the lines of a benchmade 710 however I am not going to buy one of those at the present time as it is slightly too big to carry everyday which is my fear with the endura 4. Finally how sharp out of the box a knife is will matter a lot to me as my knife sharpening skills are quite horrible.

Use would be food, various cutting such as cardboard, and annoying plastic packaging however it will probably be used to whittle every once in a while so a decent quality steel might be needed.

Knives I own are the fullsized griptilian, buck 110 and I have a missing skyline ill probably find soon. I can see there being a lot of spyderco tenacious suggestions but I am not sure I am not a big fan of the steel and the china make so I probably wont get one.

Ideally I want something very solid, nice lockup no bladeplay, withstands a lot of hard cutting etc. So please list your favorite EDC knives in my price range and if you have any more questions about my needs please ask.

BM 707 Sequel: kinda a smaller version of the 710 IMO.
Ontario Rat-1: $30 gets you a long way, great knife.
Spyderco Stretch: ZDP-189 is a great steel with very good edge retention (should hold up till your sharpening skills get better ;)) although for you it might be too big to carry if the Endura is big for you.

May cost just a bit more - Beretta Harsey (small)

All very good suggestions but I forgot to add IF I end up getting a large 100 dollar folder I would prefer it not being linerlocking.

the gec liner locks in the 73 mdl [scout] are great. also the gec lockback mdl72 is light , 3 in. blade & a great knife at about 85$.

Well.... if you look around, you may find CRKT S2. out of production for some time. people tend to sweep them up quickly. Frame lock, ATS-34, titanium
IMO - best CRKT ever made

It's starting to seem like I may need a sharpener, unfortunately I wreck knives freehand and I don't know if a dmt aligher would work on a 9 inch knife would it?

Eventhough it's neither a framelock nor linerlock, you might want to consider the Spyderco Caly 3.5. It's the perfect mid-sized EDC for me and it regularly sees pocket time, displacing my XM-18 a fair bit. And you're not gonna find many knives sharper out of the box.

Ontario RAT-1 + Spyderco Sharpmaker should be about $80. Learn how to keep the RAT-1 sharp, and save up for a better folder later.

The Kershaw Junkyard Dog is also a great knife, except for the stupid clip...

I know I'd rather have a decent knife and the ability to keep it sharp than a great knife that will eventually get permanently dull.

I would recommend the Military as it is my favorite of all but since you need 3"ish and like a lockback design.. Para is a no brainer suggestion. Scary sharp and LIGHT WEIGHT! Oh yeah.. and tough as nails.

Spyderco Paramilitary if u look around long enough u can find them in the 110ish range.

As far as sharpening.. start off with some sticks like the cheap round ones that go into a wood block or step up to the Spyderco Sharpmaker.. real easy to use and you don't have to put any thought into doing it. Few draws on each side every few weeks keeps you razor sharp w/o any effort.

I will also recommend Spyderco Stretch and Para. The Gayle Bradley can be found within your price range, but weight and lock may not be for you. Steel and blade definitely should be though :D

The BM Rift may be a good idea as well, if you have big hands.

Spyderco Sharpmaker is a great sharpener. Can be had for ~$50 in most places.

I'll 2nd Flamtnbker with the BM Bonecollector series, large or small.:)
