I have a recurve OTF from Midtech. It seems well built for the price, but yet I never see them mentioned at all really. Is there something bad about them that I don't realize? The coating on mine wears off easy but it functions well.

They seem acceptable in quality and price. No idea how well they stand behind their warranty though. Be weary that a few of their models do appear to have some knockoff elements, but a very lazy glance over the catalog didn't show any blatant clones, just stuff like a copied handle design with a different blade. Iffy at best, but for under around $50 with a supposed warranty it seems like it's a pretty low risk.

I'd say they have a leg up on companies like Ravencrest Tactical who charge up to 5x as much for the same stuff, though. At least Midtech gives you a decent deal.

Plenty of clones there, for example, here is a Microtech Cypher er, Midtech:

If you're going to buy cheap Chinese clones why not just buy them direct from the Chinese sites?

This was a gift, plus I really don't know my OTFs and autos very well. One day I hope to put this thing away forever and get an Infidel or a nice Microtech.

Well, Microtech themselves are guilty of making clones, so if they get hurt by clone sales there is at least a bit of karma there.

Also, there are a lot of very nice non-Microtech OTF options out there to explore as well. In addition to the other US made OTFs, there are some very nice Chinese OTFs that are not clones. I've tried a lot of aluminum handled OTFs, and my favorite of the bunch is a Chinese knife you can buy for a little over a hundred dollars.

What other OTF companies should I look at? I know Hogue and Pirahna are two that I've heard before. US made is a plus but isn't necessary

I’d check out guardian tactical’s OTFs.

Assuming you're looking specifically for OTFs and not folding autos here are a few, but there are others out there:

Benchmade
Guardian Tactical
Heretic
Hogue
Paragon
Piranha
Pro-Tech
