OK, who else was awakened by the earth quake?
I'm not all that far from the epicenter. My bed was actually moving from side to side for about 15 seconds.
I thought I was getting hit by a tornado at first! There was actually a rather low fequency, quite audible rumble as the motion occured.
One of the weirdest mornings of my life, if you don't count that one "coyote" morning....

We were in a motel in Toledo and the bed started to shake around 5:40 in the morning. They had a lot of construction going on the road in front of the hotel and in a strip mall behind it. I thought it was caused by heavy equipment. Turned on the news and to my surprise it was an earthquake. 5.2 on the Richter Scale. Remember each number is 10 times the strength of the preceding number. So a 6 is ten times stronger than a 5. A 5 is just about the threshold before you start showing damage.

We didn't notice the quake itself, but the dog must have. He woke us up at 4:37CDT and now I read that was the time of the event.
Hopefully that allowed the New Madrid fault system to settle itself down and that's all there will be to it.

It was around 5:00 this morning that we had a earthquake. Then about 11:20am today we had another one but small.

Thanks, Steve! I had thought this was from one of the offshoots of the New Madrid fault, so this was enjoyable to learn about the different zone. I noticed they "downgraded" the quake to 4.6 from the initial estimates reported by the news services.

Very interesting stuff! Thanks, again!

I was watching TV and our Doberman was laying beside me on the couch. I thought it was him moving, but when I looked at the dog he was just looking around. I saw the surface of the water in a glass on the end table rippling and knew it was a small earthquake. It is only the second earthquake I have ever felt in 54 years...
